Eyesight?

Okay... I know astigmatism/eye problems can be caused by outside factors, but can UC cause it? I used to have perfect vision (or better than perfect according to my doctor, whatever that meant), but now I can't read things, like even a sign across a hall, with my right eye. I know you use both but I think it's affecting my normal vision a bit. Because when I use just my left eye, everything's fine, better even than when I use both eyes.
Anyways, wondering if it could be UC related or what? Or am I just old for being 20? lol

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.  I recently posted a item regarding my vision.  I too am having trouble with my right eye and am seeing a retna specialist tomorrow.  I did see my eye dr as my vision was clouded in one spot (peripheral about 4 o'clock) and come to find out I have a blocked blood vessel.  He felt it was brought on as a complication to the UC and not necessarily by the drugs I'm on - of which includes prednisone.  As I learned from other's responses it is important to get vision disturbances checked out as if it is something like loss of circulation to part of the retina - you can permanently damage the tissue and won't get the vision back.  I am concerned that my small area where my vision is lacking will not come back.  I will find out tomorrow.  The strange thing is - it happened only to my right eye, which is my strong eye.  My left eye is fine.  I was able to identify the area where my vision was lacking by closing my good eye (left eye) and moving my finger back and forth and found the area where it would disappear.  It is a little scarey and has stressed me out.  My only advice would be make sure you get vision issues checked out.  Better to find it is nothing than to assume you know what it is and come to find out you acted too late.  Good luck!

Hmm, I dunno, my eyes are terrible anyway so I don't really notice a difference.

I know UC can cause eye irritation. Not sure about vision discrepancies.

I see black spots but this is a side effect from steroid use. Steroids can also cause glucoma and cataracs depending on hiw long you have been on the steroid. Steroids are a naste drug if used for a long time.

So I guess that's good news in that you can get it fixed?  I mean the retinal specialist could have said there is nothing that can be done.  So I am happy for you.  Good luck with ther procedure.

A timely topic... I went to the ophthamologist today, and my vision has deteriorated slightly yet again. I've been horribly nearsighted since childhood, started wearing glasses at age 8, so I'm pretty sure my eye issues aren't particularly related to UC. The Doc has IBD in his family, though, so we had a very interesting discussion!
