pain in upper abdomen

I know there are a lot of posts about pain but I can't seem to track down any info on upper abdomen pain. I get it when I eat anything. Just above my belly button to just below my ribs. The doc gave me Tecta - pantoprazole magnesium to see if it's acid reflux but I've been having this pain since I started flaring. Anyone else have this happen?

My daughter has this pain. It's above her belly button and goes across from left to right. Her GI gave her Protonix thinking it might be related to the oral potassium and iron she was given while in the hospital. I think it might be her Transverse colon that is hurting her. Either way, when we see him again next week. I will ask him.

My GI kinda looked at me funny when I said I still had this pain, like it was completely unusual. I don't go back until December so I'd love to hear what your guy says. Thanks.

I've had that pain, also, though scopes have not showed any inflammation that high. The best I can figure is that it's "referred pain".... sort of like, my knee hurt for 6 years and when I finally had xrays, it turned out my knee was great but my hip needed replacing. Sometime where we sense the pain is not that actual location of the source of that pain.
I'm not saying I know what your situation is - just relating what mine has been!

 I have painful spots all over but when I press on them they are not tender but if I press on my left side where I have lefts  sided colitis it does feel very tender.  I am also assuming it is referred pain.

Hmmm. Had to look up referred pain. I'm learning more then I really ever wanted to know about pain to be honest:)

when does the pain occur? is it after taking your meds? taking your meds with food (not so spicy food) may help. you may be having gastritis (inflammation of the stomach) as all of the acids are stimulated when you eat. the meds irritate and make it worse. can't really say what else might be going on without knowing more info. good luck

Hi! was just wondering if you have had any steroids? This is the type of thing i get after having steroids. It ended up causing an ulcer in my stomach and hence the symptoms you are having. It maybe something to look into if you have had steroids.

I had them prescribed by the doc in the hospital before I saw a GI. He actually weened me off of them too quickly so I only took them for about 3 or 4 weeks. Can't remember exactly now.

I too had this kind of pain (with or without any medication). My GI told me (after a colonoscopy) that they are usual for IBD and IBS, so i am living with it. Sometimes i take Ibutin (Timebutinum) for them and they ease a bit. They go as they come...

I have that pain as well. I go Monday for a CAT scan of abdomen and pelvis with contrast. I will let you know what they say if you want.

Dx- initial-proctitis, presently-distal colitis, waiting on c. diff results, upper right quadrant pain, stomachache all of the time.
Rx-40 mg prednisone (started yesterday), Asacol HD 2400mg 2x's a day, VSL3, Aspirin 81 mg-for PAI-1 clotting disorder, lexapro and wellbutrin for anxiety and depression, trazadone for sleep, lipitor for high cholesterol

Sorry kspace. Just noticed your question. It's a pretty constant thing made worse by eating. I've been trying to avoid spicy foods. I haven't noticed that it's worse after the meds. I am starting to have mucous again today so I'm starting to assume it's from inflammation:( A little sad.

I too get this pain and have posted questions to see if anyone else experiences it.
I just have always chalked it up to the start of a flare and or just very bad gas pains. If I feel any start of the pain, I'll try to take some Gas X or Phasym to head it off. It usually helps a little, but it usually just takes time for things to pass. I also try to lie on my side or stomach to push things along. Or try walking too. Sometimes the last thing you want to do is go for a walk with those kind of pains, but it does help.
