Hi,
I take 12 Asacol tablets a day and I was wondering is there an alternative drug I could take instead of it? I haven't had alcohol in 5 years since I first got UC and I really would like to be able to have a couple of drinks on rare occasions but I know asacol has a side effect that you can get stomach bleeding from alcohol. So, I would like to know if there are other medications I can switch to (I would like to do some research about
other medications and asking people who have UC before going to my doctor).
Thank you.

I hate Asacol but am stuck taking it du eto my doctor's choice. There are other medication choices out there. I wold also like to enjoy a glass of wine sometimes but it more the disease keeping me away from it than the medication. Alcohol can really play havic with the digestive system.
I found a good source for UC med on this site:

Hi,
Thank you for the site!
I read on there for asacol it said to limit alcoholic drinks because it may cause stomach bleeding. If I were to try drinking while taking asacol does that mean if i take maybe just a shot or two of something strong enough to get me very drunk quick my stomach might not be effected by it?

Hi, I've taken 16 Asacol a day for the last 8 years and 12 a day for some years before that..... and I just read your post after dinner with two glasses of wine, as I do many Friday nights.
Sometimes I think I'm better not knowing things......
