enemas not working

so i've been using the rowasa for about a month now and the hydrocort enemas for a couple weeks. hydrocort at bedtime and rowasa after my first poo the next day. still having blood but it seems to drip out after my formed stools come out. i'm only going a few times a day. is it possible that maybe i have a fissure or hemmies since i've been doing the enemas but still bleeding? doc said if the hydrocort enemas don't work than it's scope time!

I think you could have a fissure...I've never had blood dripping out after a bm when I was flaring (and bleeding at the time).

Take a look yourself by squatting over a mirror after wiping, but if it is a fissure, it'll still be bleeding.

Where exactly is your UC?  Are you on oral 5ASA as well (which one)?

Has the doc taken a look recently with a rectoscope to see what's going on? He can check for hemmies and fissures as well.

i've got left sided uc. i'm on colazal 9 caps a day. negative on the rectoscope.

i'll try the squatting over the mirror. hopefully my gf doesn't walk in haha. thanks quincy!

Try Cortifoam... just don't stay on it long term.

tried cortifoam before and it was worse.

quincy when you do bleed what is it like? how does it come out? it seems that my blood just kinda drips out right after the stool comes out. i don't know if it's just kinda accumulating there in between poos or what. weird.

oh and i notice when i put the enemas up the tip of the syringe causes a tiny bit of discomfort when i get it about a quarter of an inch in. i can also feel maybe just a slight burn when i "inject" the hydrocort.

I've been using the colocort enemas and I too had virtually the same kind of bleeding at times. Taking warm sitz baths (just sitting in a warm/hot bath for 10 mins or so) has made a big difference.

The hydrocortisone enemas caused pretty bad constipation for me, and then pushing and straining, which led to the bleeding which I believe was from Hemmies. I was unsure whether to take extra bulking fiber or not. As of now I am limiting fiber to psyllium once a day. Having huge bulky stool was very irritating too.

I am slowly weaning off the colocort and switching doses to rowasa and so far the constipation has been easing. The rowasa couldn't get me back into remission, but now that the colocort has cleared up all the bloody mucous, it seems to be keeping the gains I made with the colocort, and as I said, the constipation, pushing and straining seems to be easing. All those problems seem to be from the colocort.

I have a feeling that the steroid enemas delay healing of the hemmies and drag that all out.

It could be a fissure or it could be inflammation. I don't think there is really any way to know without a scope. I've had rectal inflammation that was not helped by enemas - steriod or ASA. Doing enemas doesn't always help in every flare. That's why people end up on stronger drugs like 6mp or prednisone. If only it were so simple that enemas helped everyone everytime, I'd be in a much better place.

ugh i'm scared of going on prednisone. i only had to go once today, just went actually. same thing, formed stools but then quite a bit of blood. i'm hoping it's just hemmies or a fissure.

Your doc needs to take a look with a rectoscope and actually see what's the culprit.

ever since i've been on the hydrocort enemas (almost two weeks ago) it seems my bleeding has been worse. stopped taking them last night and went with the rowasa. today there was still blood but formed stools. no urgency or anything else. going to see how the next few days go. made an appt with the gi doc on the 13th. afraid because i don't want to get medically discharged from the air force. been doing well so far since being diagnosed back in 2006.
