My cold has gotten worse, doc wants me on a zithromax z pack

I'm not happy! He said my throat looks like hamburger....nice. I'm not excited about taking any more meds!

Oh no. I'm teetering. Everyone at work is sick and I'm right there with a cough and some mucus. Are you going to take it? Are you going to increase your probiotics?

VSL#3, or at least take some good acidopholus from the health food store. Z-pack can really mess with your system.

If you are taking probiotics, definitely increase them. I never had an issue with the Zpack btw. I hope you feel better soon!

Also make sure to take your probiotic at least two hours before and/or after a dose of antibiotics!

antibiotics for a cold? really? that's one of the reasons so many of us are in this mess I think.

I agree with killcolitis. Did they do a strep test? I wouldn't take any antibiotic without a definite diagnosis.

I had to take the 6-dose Z-pak in August for a dental abscess and root canal - sent me into a horrible flare of my crohn's colitis, from which I still haven't recovered. I'm now switching to Cimzia from Humira, which was doing nothing to put out my flare. The Z-pak also sent me into a flare in 2003 - ended up in the hospital.

Somebody will have to do some serious convincing before I'll take anitbiotics again.

Unless the doctor takes tests to prove you have an infection - don't take the antibiotics. Z-pak did not mess with my UC but why take something that doesn't do any good. OTC drugs like antihistamines/sinus rinse/Mucinex is all you need - just drink LOTS of water and it takes time!

I agree. Unless they can prove to me it's not viral I won't take an anti.
