Ok,  there is a procedure that goes by various names that may be of interest to some of you, and may gross most of you out.  It is called fecal transplant, fecal bacteriology, stool transplant, or fecal infusion.  It cured me of c diff  within two days.  It is easy to do at home if you have a healthy donor.  I wrote an article on how to perform this procedure at home if you can't make it to Duluth to have it done there.  It has been shown to be nearly 100 percent effective in small trials to cure c. diff infection and colitis.  It involves administering a health donors stool sample via enema into the sufferer.  Sounds disgusting right?  It is.  But is it not more disgusting living with this or is it not disgusting what doctors give some patients, that is, drugs.  The top two links are brief explainations of the procedures's background science, the bottom is the procedure itself for performing at home.  Visit cdiffsupport.com, this is for real and safe if you know or screen your donor.  It has been shown to be very effective in that it does not just treat your colitis or c diff, it replaces your messed up bacterial flora with a healthy person's.  Make sense, I thought so.  I did not have colitis but c diff was pure hell.  This procedure cured it.  Absolutely cured it with no side affects.  Do some research with the various names mentioned above, you will be amazed and irritated at the medical community's ignorance to this successful treatment.  good luck.

I edited your title to reflect the information you gave in the post. You were, in fact, cured of a c. diff infectious colitis, not ulcerative colitis. I'm assuming you didn't mean to be misleading, but bacterial colitis is a completely different condition than IBD.

I'm definitely considering it ... I told myself I'd give the GI one more chance, if that doesn't work it's HPI (human probiotic infusion) for me. My wife seems like the perfect donor, and she's willing (barely).

A few people have posted about this before, so it's interesting to read more about fecal infusion. I think it's worth a try if you have access to a suitable donor.

Just wondering, the title of your post says that your ulcerative colitis was cured by this, but in your message you write "I did not have colitis but c diff was pure hell".

Which is it?

Sue - how do you define "cure"? Some people have done HPI (Fecal Transplant) and have had no signs of UC for over a decade via scope. Sure, you could say it's a very long remission, but I'd personally call a 10 year remission (with no histological evidence of UC) a cure.

"put the goodies in your blender and add 300ml of distilled water plus 2 tablespoons of salt. This will give you the mixture needed for infusion. The water and salt will combine to give you a 10% saline solution suitable for cleanliness. Blend this mixture on low at first just to get it going then switch to high speed. Guess I'm not going to be making any smoothies after this trial, huh?

It may surprise you that several of us have already had in depth discussions on this and even tried it. I tried it while in a flare with two different donors and continued on with a flare. Would be interested to give it another go now that I am better. I did it without the flagyl though. I would have to see several people in here try it and get great results which lasted for at least 3 or 4 months before I believed it is actually a valid treatment for UC.

Fecal transplantation worked for me too! It didn't cure me. But it certainly has made a huge difference in my condition.

Fecal transplantation put me in remission when I was prednisone dependent. Plus, it gave me normal poos, maybe even better than normal, considering my age. However, I had to take antibiotics again, and again, and again for a bladder infection, and I got another flare as result. Probiotics and a change of diet got that one, which wasn't nearly as severe, under control. And of course, after that I had to take antibiotics again, although only topical antibiotics, for things like an ear infection, peridontalitis, and acne. And guess what, I got another flare from the antibiotics, only this time it was very, very mild flare. The flare went away with Lialda and Canasa. I stopped using the Canasa, and I'm tapering off Lialda. I'm down to two a day.

I did fecal transplantation at home. I bought a syringe with a removable tip from a local drug store, and mixed the poo with luke warm water in a plastic container. I did not add salt. I then filled the syringe with it, and put it up my butt. I did this two times. Three treatments later, and I was in remission. Absolutely, no bleeding. I'm thinking about doing fecal transplantation again next time I visit my daughter, especially since I keep having to take antibiotics. I also plan be more active in taking preventive measures against getting infections. Currently, I'm taking cranberry supplements. They seem to be helping in preventing bladder infections.

Dear houseonlake,

When you did the transplant at home, did you have a family member as a donor? I don't have a healthy family member, but I do have a friend that is willing to donate. Would that work??

Subdued..have a question for you!! Were you in a flare from antibiotic use and then did the FT? Just curious...I cant remember if I had recently taking antibiotics when I very first saw symptoms before I was diagnosed. But antibiotics definitely put me into a flare last year!!

So how would one go about doing one of these fecal transplants at home? If I had to try it based on what I know, I'd say get a scoop of a healthy colin donor's fecal matter. blend it in a salt and gelatin solution. (Yum!) Make sure you have about a half gallon when done. Incubate it a day or so, and shove it up your a** for the next few days.

I can just tell, this is going to hit the holistic market like wildfire! You Watch! You'll even see it in movies like Nutty Professor (fart scene).

But seriously, I'm human and I can't help but wonder if it would do me some good even though I don't have one of those nasty conditions. I have had a calcium oxalate kidney stone and it's looking like the cause of them may have to do with an absence of a specific bacteria that literally eats oxalate. To add to that, I have gastrointestinal irritations that make me wonder some times what's really going on in there.

If there's someone out there works in labs like that, tell us what to do. A well studied out home job couldn't be that bad. I have no insurance and have a pathetic income. I'd really like to know what to do. idea

Folks you really do not want to mix the poo with air/oxygen, it will kill the bacteria, these are anaerobic bacteria and they need to stay that way. No blenders.

So you're saying that there is no oxygen in the colon? If that's the case, why couldn't we just inject some oxygen into the colon to kill off the bugs and then take probiotics to add good ones back? That doesn't seem right to me...

Here are the steps I used:

1. Donor poo'ed
2. Get some of the poo immediately (not much is needed, about 1/2 syringe worth)
3. Mix with lukewarm water from bathroom faucet
4. Put mixture in syringe
5. Stick up butt

Repeat 2 to 4 times.

Do this every time donor poos - five to 10 times should be optimum

Please note: I did the procedure twice. The first time I was able to do it three times over three days. The second time, I was only able to do it twice over a few days. I still had fantastic results. The first time, I noticed the results immediately after the third transplantation. The second time, I noticed the results gradually, but then I wasn't able to do it three times.

I had to do the procedure twice because I had taken antibiotics after the first time.

I don't plan to take antibiotics again unless I absolutely have to.

Hi all

just wanted add my experience. i just finishes trying FT at home. i was able to do 10 transplants over the course of approx. 15 days (some days the babe does not poop) using my one year old son as a donor. unfortunately for me i have yet to see any really positive results. that being said, the fact that i was in a flare and on pred as well as messing with my other meds makes the results murky. also, i am only one month out of the first transplant and about 1.5 weeks out of the last so potentially the results will still happen (although i am not holding a whole lot of hope out). lets just say that i did not see any of the really impressive results that some have seen.

right now i just need to use the meds to get out of the flare, when that is over i may try another donor. infants have different fecal bacteria than adults do - bacteria is not mature until about the age of two years.

nevertheless, my recommendation is give it shot. if you know your donor's history WELL!!!!! then you most likely wont get worse (although i did read about one guy who claimed it make his symptoms worse) and it could make you a whole lot better with no side effects or big bucks. i never really had much of the 'yuck' factor but then again i was using my baby's poop and it is almost like using my own poop i am so familiar with it!

There is a doc up in Chicago who has just started a study on UC patients using FT as the treatment. The participants are recently diagnosed UC patients whose symptoms have not responded to ASA5 meds. His name is Dr Rubin and he is associated with the University Medical Center there. You can google his info or I can give it to you if you like. It will be interesting to follow-up on the results of his study.

Certainly there is more and more of talk about this procedure being used to treat UC in the mainstream medical community. In fact, I think the idea of applying it to UC and perhaps Crohns was discussed recently at an international Gastro conference (you can find into about that on the web to if you look)

I know there are tons of fecal transplantation threads on here, but my concern with using a family member as a donor (particularly a child) is that colitis can be hereditary . . . I know my aunt has Crohn's, I have UC, and there are a number of other family members who have had varying issues with gastrointestinal problems (IBS, etc.) . . . would it be smarter to use a non-related donor if you could still somewhat verify the health of said donor?
