Best method for stool collection?

I've been having yellow foul smelling stool for the past 5-6 days or so. I also developed random upper right and lower right sided pain...comes and goes but when it comes, it stops me in my tracks! So I called the doc and he wants me to give a stool sample to rule out C.diff (not sure why because I thought D accompanied C.diff which I don't have?) or maybe something else - lab slip says C.diff toxin. Anyway, all they gave me was this small cup. So what is the best way to collect stool because obviously going into this small cup is NOT going to work!

That's dumb! Every time I've ever had to collect poo my GI office would give me a "hat" to poop into and a stick to chop it up and put it into the tubes.
Could you try setting a pie plate under the toilet seat and pooping in that and then use a plastic spoon to scoop it up?

The last time I had to give a stool sample was a good 18 years ago and it was the same thing. Just a little small cup, however, I was having very watery D so it wasn't that bad - almost like peeing in a cup. But I don't have D, so I am not quite sure how I am going to do this. I don't have a pie pan/plate but do you think saran wrap over the toilet seat would work, like make a pocket out of the wrap?

I would think the saran wrap would work, sort of make it just slack enough that it will, um, sag with the weight a bit.....
I was trying to think of some way to use a paper plate - I've found those handy for a variety of collection things and uses (great paint palettes....)...

I took my stool sample RX to the local lab and they gave me a kit with a toilet "hat", way easy to use, brought it back with sample the next day. The last time I did it (over 8 years ago) it was much clunkier, a piece of plastic to stretch over the toilet bowl.

I cannot imagine how to use a cup for stool sample, that is ridiculous.

I just had to do a round of stool samples. They gave me this big plastic thing to put over the toliet and poop in. Oooh it gets better....then I had to fill 8 (yes 8) vials w/ a tiny scooper of poo.

I don't use a toilet to collect stool- I use a sturdy trash can, lined with a clean trash bag or two, and just sit down on that.  As a male, I also get an empty jug of water or milk or something and use it to collect (i.e. divert from contaminating) any pee that happens to come out when I "produce" my speciimen- I'' leave it to the ladies to advise how they prevent contamination with pee.  I then get a disposable plastic spoon to scoop up bits from around the stool so as to get a distributed sample.

Ugh! Never ever do I want to do that again! I used a trash bag in a 5 gallon bucket (my hubby's idea). I have been having super foul smelling stool so this was NOT pleasant at all! Yuck! SMH - some of the things we do like Journey said!

For stool samples for both myself and my young daughter, I use "Press and Seal" instead of Saran Wrap and it worked great.  Just line the whole bowl of the toilet with a couple of layers, creating sort of a concave shape and then I used a plastic knife instead of that annoying tiny little scooper.  It went a lot cleaner and faster that way.  Then when you're done filling all those vials, you just carefully pull the sides of the Press and Seal off the toilet bowl into a sack and discard in a grocery bag/trash.  I've used this method at least 3 times and it always works well no matter what the consistency of the stool (as long as you remember to use several overlapping layers of Press and Seal!

I find it eay to turn a zip lock sandwich bag inside out on your hand. Poop into your hand and close the bag around it.  They should have given you some small scoopers too so you can put it into the cups. I would use a plastic spoon.

The plasic bag trick is also handy to use to clean up while walking your dog.  That's how I got the idea...what's good enough for Fido is good enough for me!

Since I'm doing fecal transplants I have to collect my daughter's poop daily.  I put a pan in the toilet and when she poops it lands in there.  Of course, it's a pan that will never get used for anything else.  But it works great.

These are all good ideas. I think one time I just pooped in the toilet and used a cheap slotted ladel to scoop it out (and, obviously, threw out the ladel when I was done)

LOL, the little cup.

Turn the water valve off on your toilet, flush it to get the water out and put saran or aluminum foil down to collect. Get what you need trash the wrap and turn the water back on to flush.
