I Found a New Patent for UC Treatment

While browsing patents online, I just happened to spot the word "Colitis" in the corner of my eye and discovered a patent for preventing and/or treating colitis...it was published this September 23, 2010 !!

They claim their treatment can also prevent colon cancer...if this is all correct, it means there will be better treatment for colitis in the near future.

I believe this is the patent #: 20100242124

I found the document on freepatentsonline website.

Here's the link to the document, which describes their findings in ninety pages of text and graphs. I admit that I haven't read it in detail; but maybe it's worth a look.

Thanks for the posting. Pages 36-37 start talking about the meat of the invention. I skimmed through the document but didn't have time to really dissect it. It sounds like a combination therapy that will focus on eliminating GI bacterial flora with antibiotics, repopulating with probiotics/prebiotics and addition of compounds to help the integrity of the epithelial barrier. Interesting topic.

Wow, thanks for posting this- this is great! Although experimental results of human treatments don't always mirror those of animals, or in this case mice, this information sounds truly promising. I'm quite interested to know if Harvard is going to pursue the experimentation in humans. And I will definitely be researching this more! I have yet to find something promising like this on pubmed.

I have to agree that this is interesting and promising, especially since the government paid for some of the funding. Also, they have made enough progress to warrant a patent...so hopefully, we'll hear something about this soon.
