Thanks for your reply. I am going to call on Monday about getting Rowasa before the new year gets here (insurance - LOL).

My Dr. doesn't seem to have much confidence in oral meds for proctitis except to say it might help the formation of mucous higher up. I have so-o-o-o-o much mucous and very, very explosive gas. I tried Lialda, but didn't notice a difference, and it was more $$$ that Asacol.

I appreciate all of you on these forums. A true wealth of knowledge!

I was also diagnosed as having chronic active protitis along with Pancolitis.  However, my dr. did not put me on any enemas.  The most diarrhea I have had in a day is 4 even on my worst day. When is an enema usually prescribed?

What are you taking to manage your proctitis. Orals? Have you aspired to be in remission or you're OK with the way things are. For many people, rectal suspension enemas can really tamp down some of those symptoms, however mild they are. Why put up with it if you can find the right regimen to achieve remission.

Journeytohealth. I was wondering about the ensure and all the sugar and dairy.   I called the dr. office and the NP called me back. Told her I had introduced fiber as the dr. told me I could and the bleeding started.  She said I need to rest my colon and told me a lot of their UC patients drink Ensure.  mhmm..

As far as the signature.  I though I updated mine.

journey2health. I have heard a lot of talk about remission. I'm thinking my GI dr. did not take any time to educate me on the plan for me at all. I have done most of the footwork myself with this forum and reading a bit. The book i just read did not mention how to achieve remission. I have had two really good days following a diet in the book for active flares. I have been eating 2 to 3 servings of cream of wheat. 2-3 servings of fish(salmon) no dairy except for the Ensure to help maintain my weight, toast with butter and that's about it.
