time for enema??

It started as diarrhea about 10 days ago....lots of watery stool. Then I started with metamucil and immodium...I have been having terrible urgency for a few days. When I try to moc=ve my bowels I have terrible urgency, pressure and pain...it seems like there is something that wants to come out. I just tried to digitally palpate if there is an impaction...didn't really feel any. I m going to do an enema I think. As I palpate my descending colon and sigmoid there is MUCH tenderness/pain...I cannot take this!!! Am I doing the right thing? administering an enema?

I think enemas would be a good idea but you may have trouble retaining them if you're having pressure in your rectum. When I feel like that, I use Canasa, they are easier to retain but not quite as much medication and don't help with inflammation that is beyond the rectum.

A Fleet?!!! I meant that you should be using Rowasa or Canasa enemas nightly (and morning too if necessary). Fleet enemas won't help with the inflammation or pressure, they will just make you run to the toilet.

I guess we should state enema medication? Some things are just understood...Deacon...while we've suggested them to you in the past, is that what you thought we were suggesting?

If you are particularly loose, you may find that foam enemas are easier to retain. You may wish to discuss with your doctor to see if you can be prescribed something suitable.

If your bowels are pretty swollen it could be hard to get them to come down, but you could ask about the possibility of getting on a Anti-inflammatory steroid, a 5 day course of it, that way it would give your body a jump start

I don't think a five pack of pred will do much.

I had a very similar course of symptoms as you have, a slide into diarrhea and pain. I was not seeing blood because my diarrhea was completely liquid. When the stools solidified, there was blood.

I was hospitalized. I started with 40 for two weeks which stopped the diarrhea in its tracks. I then tapered to 20 for two weeks then 5 mg. a week according to the doctors instructions. At the same time, I took 12 400 mg. Asacol tabs a day. It would have been more successful had the doctor added Rowasa enemas nightly and Canasa suppositories daily. That's the way I would have done it had I knew what I know now from this board.

I'm sorry you got confused about the enemas. I don't understand why the nurse said that a suspension enema might not be the way to go. I think you may not be bleeding because your stools are water.
