I'm pretty much a turkey/potatoes/dressing/trimmings person and that's the norm with our family celebration.  I grew up with it and married into it...definitely a favourite for me.

I miss my Scottish grandmother's sausage dressing that cooked in the front part of the turkey.  My mom continued the tradition, but, dang...don't have her recipe. 

Just curious what others' must-haves are.

I'm definitely a turkey/potatoes/dressing/trimmings girl. If I don't get it then I get cranky, lol :)
I'm not a person who isn't afraid of mixing food together either. I mix dressing and corn together. It may sound odd, but that's how I like it.
But cranberries freak me out, always has since I was a child. Haha

My go-to hot meal is always roast turkey, real mashed potatoes w/o gravy (I prefer butter, odd I know...), green beans, roll, possibly cottage cheese.

I usually keep a frozen Marie Calendar's meal in the freezer just for times that I need a meal my GI tract wants most.

Turkey is for thanksgiving! I mostly eat cookies. We usually have ham at my aunt's, but this year we're also having prime rib. Right now, in fact.

I see that this year hanukka isn't at the same time as Christmas...what are must have foods for hanukkah?

Oh hands down Orangy Sweet potatoes....you make a sweet sauce out of orange juice, brown sugar and bit of corn starch for thickening, pour over peeled and boiled sweet potatoes, sprinkle marshmallows and almonds on top and bake until the mallows melt and brown. mmmm so delicious! Even my husband, who doesn't like sweet potatoes, will eat this :)

Ah I can't help but eat a few home made cookies and sweets during holidays, and venision summer sausage with crackers and cheese.. I wouldn't say a must have, but hard to resist.

We have ham for Christmas, because I am fried from having worked until 1:00 am........my husband cooks the Christmas dinner, and ham is easy. :-)

I make a Swedish yeast coffee cake, with cinnamon and cardamom, which is our "must have" for Christmas breakfast. I also love the various cookies!

I love roast turkey for Christmas dinner. This year, I've been using recipes from NoMoreChrons.  They are all scd legal and delicious. The candied butternut squash is my new favorite side dish! I made it for Thanksgiving and everyone asked for the recipe. I'm bringing it to my mom's for lunch today. The homemade cranberry sauce is really good too. I hope everyone has a happy and healthy holiday!

Cabbage rolls and polish sausage - family tradition since I can remember. Can be a little rough the next day but totally worth it.

Hope you all enjoyed a great Christmas dinner...we had all with the trimmings..definitely good!

colonblow..I like the insides of the cabbage rolls..meat/rice ones are my fave. Yeah, the cabbage is definitely gassy. Polish sausage is great too.

Nothing in particular. There are too many good foods to choose from.

We had a vegetarian dinner (sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, ...) on X-Mas eve, Lefse for Christmas brunch, and Chinese for X-Mas dinner.

Hi Quincy - I thought of you today as we made our Christmas dinner a day after (traveled Christmas Day!) Roast turkey and all the trimmings!! Nothing like the smell of that in your home.

We are jewish though, and celebrate Hanukah too. One food that is traditional is something called a latke which is a potato pancake. They are YUMMY!

BTW, we glazed the turkey with apricot jam and honey this year and WOW was it good!

I think we have about 4 must haves for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Cranberry sauce, stuffing, candied yams and green bean casserole.

I'm a turkey with all the trimmings too, but I have to finish the meal with my Grandmother's/Mother's English fruitcake. She makes it specially for me with the candied fruit, cherries, raisins and currants. I think next year I'll ask for it without raisins and currants (too much fiber!)
In Guatemala we make a "punch" with dehydrated fruit: apples, raisins, pineapple, papaya, cinnamon, cloves and brown sugar, and serve it hot, with a little dark rum. It's fabulous!

Definitely sounds fabulous!! I love fruitcake, and my husband makes it (his mom's recipe but tweaked a bit)...but he hasn't made it in 2 years...I said "too much gas! lol.

Interesting about apricot honey glaze turkey! any gravy from that?

Now...what's for New Year's?

OOOOOH, sorry I didn't see this tasty thread til now!

Well, we have turkey on Thanksgiving so on Christmas we have beef roast/potatoes/green beans/rolls.  Plus cookies!!

My favorite cookies are angel kisses which are merangues with chocolate chips!!  YUM!
