It makes sense to me that drinking an aloe vera drink could be helpful in healing the rawness of the u.c. flare. Right now, I have been diagnosed and am working through meds to get me to a point that I'm NOT in a flare...been 7 months! Taking pentasa with small results and added prednisone two weeks ago and see marked improvement. But I'm curious if anybody has had experience with adding Aloe Vera Drink to your diet. Thanks for the feedback!

Hi welcome to the forum.
Where exactly is your UC? limited or throughout?
too bad you're on prednisone....are you not on any rectal meds? 5ASA to be specific?
I'd never take aloe vera drinks for my UC...

Hi,
I added aloe vera juice to my daily regimine of supplements/vitamins/medications in July 10' after my first scope. I can't tell you for sure if there are any benefits, but I don't feel there are any negatives. I take about
4 ounces every morning. One day when I'm flare free, I might try slowly removing certain things from my supplement/vitamin/medication list. Very slowly.
But as to why I take the aloe vera is for these reasons (words taken from an aloe site my friend referred to me that made alot of sense):
Aloe vera juice is made from aloe vera gel. It is one of the aloe vera products that can be taken internally so a person can get the internal benefits of aloe vera. Although there have not been many studies involving how beneficial aloe vera juice can be, many people have experienced the benefits and aloe vera juice is now quite popular.
There are many benefits to aloe vera juice. When aloe vera juice is taken twice daily in 2-4 oz doses it is said that it can help a person to maintain good health. Aloe vera juice is known to help to detoxify the body and cleanse the colon. The detoxification properties of the juice also work to detoxify the blood stream. It is also said that aloe vera juice could benefit a person with intestinal or stomach problems. It should aid in the healing of ulcers and help the digestive tract to work smoothly. It is also said that aloe vera juice can improve circulation. The aloe helps dilate the capillaries and aid in cell growth. Aloe vera juice also has many benefits that aloe vera gel does. It acts as a antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal agent, preventing illness. The overall effect of taking aloe vera juice regularly can be a feeling of energy and health.
If you are buying an Aloe Vera product, always purchase those made from 100% pure Aloe Vera. Look out for the International Aloe Science Council Seal of Approval as a guide.
Aloe Vera Drinks
The benefits of aloe vera juice go beyond that of the aloe vera gel. Putting aloe vera into an ingestible form allows people to get both the external and internal benefits of aloe vera. By drinking aloe vera juice a person can get the benefits of aloe vera's ability to aid in digestion, improve circulation, detoxify and heal from the inside. Aloe vera juice can be a part of a person's daily healthy regimen because it is said that it is safe to take everyday. A simple 2 -4 ounces twice a day is all a person needs to reap the benefits of aloe vera juice.
Sorry so long, hope this helps some.

@ ColonBlow,
Could you please let us know which brand do you use? All AloeVera 'juices' that I have came across so far, none carried the seal you mentioned and all of them were made from concentrate.

Hi,
Fruit of The Earth Aloe Vera Juice. I buy it at Walmart, but I've seen it at CVS and Walgreens. It has the certification seal. It comes in a gallon jug or there's a fruit flavored one that's smaller. I've also seen it being sold through Amazon. Hope this helps a bit.

I've heard aloe vera can have bad effects on those with blood type O. Is this true? My boyfriend just bought some of the fruit of the earth aloe and wanted to try it for his UC. His blood type is O positive. Is that safe?

I tried it several years ago and got no benefits. I would drink it first thing in the morning. Also there are some known side effects. Here is a copy/paste from an online site; I just included the quote that seems most relevant:
"Adverse Effects Of Aloe Vera Juice
Intake of aloe vera juice can serve as a good laxative. One of the most common side effects of aloe vera juice is stomach pain or abdominal cramps. Since, aloe vera juice contains laxative compounds, diarrhea, and electrolyte imbalances are also common side effects. Therefore, aloe vera juice is not recommended for people suffering from irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, hemorrhoids, or ulcers."

I remember when I was taking it I did a lot of searches and some sites say it is only certain derivatives etc. that are beneficial from the aloe vera; then they sell them for about
150. for a months supply. I could not/can not afford to pay that much.

Hi , I've found Aloe Vera to be very beneficial for my problem. I take 5o ml three times a day and an Omega3 fish oil tablet each time.

I am type 'A' blood. I was downing a lot of aloe vera juice last summer when all hell broke loose. Not so sure I want to test that again. Previously I got enteric coated aloe vera 'Aleoride' from the UK and it all sounded wonderful but did nothing but lighten my wallet. So based on those 2 experiences I am done with aloe solutions. I get much better results from fiber products, inulin and hemp 3-6-9 powder.
