Any success with Apriso

I just started taking Apriso this week and I do not see any difference with my UC-has anyone else had any success with Apriso? Should I give it some more time before I give up the Apriso and move on to something different?

What were you on before Apriso, and was it working for you? What are your symptoms right now, and where is your UC located? Are you using any rectal meds?

I'm on Apriso, but was in remission when I switched to it from Asacol. I switched because I was having trouble remembering my noon dose of Asacol, and because I was seeing pills in my stool that still had medicine in them. Apriso starts dissolving at a lower pH than Asacol does, and UCers are thought to have more acidic guts than normal folks, so I thought it would be worth a try.

I've been in remisison for a while now, so am happy with Apriso.

I was on Lialda before I switched over to Apriso. And the Lialda was working for awhile and then it just stopped. The symptoms that I am having now is just bloody stool and watery diarrhea. It is funny when you say you were seeing the Asacol in your stool-I experienced the same thing. I am not taking any rectal meds. I put in a prescription for Rowasa enema but didnt pick it up since my husband and I started trying to conceive-I really just wanted to be on as less medicines as possible, ya know. I am glad to see that you are in remission and I hope it stays like that. What kind of rectal meds do you take? Do you know if Rowasa enema is steroid based or mesamaline?

Hope it's ok if I jump in here...but I'm on Rowasa and it's mesalamine, not steroid.  They have helped me so far!

It's not advisable to deliberately get pregnant while you're in a flare. U.S. gastroenterologists Sunanda Kane & Uma Mahadevan write/lecture about that so you can look them up online. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

I switched from Asacol 12 pills (6x2/day) to Apriso (4x1/day) about a year ago and saw no improvment. The only thing that was better was the fact that I didn't need to take pills twice a day.

Apriso is a once a day product for UC that is in the same class as Asacol and Lialda. Apriso has a unique delivery compared to the other 2 and is highly effective in a much lower dose. The other benefit to Apriso is it is under Half the cost of the other 2. And the company offers cards that will cover co-pays so in most cases patients have $0 out of pocket cost for Apriso. Make the switch! One last thing, if you're a female considering child birth, Asacol is a pregnacy cat C and should be used with EXTREME CAUTION. While Apriso is Cat B (Safe)

I am currently on Apriso 4 x 1; Imuran 4 x 1 and I do Rowasa enemas every other night.  I had some good results right at first on the Apriso but my doc then tried to ween me back to 2 a day and that just made me flair and now I'm back on the Rowasa.  I've battled my ulcerative procitus for 15 plus years and am thinking I will just get an ostomy of some sort late this year or next.  Sorry I can't be more encouraging.

Apriso didn't work for me, but asacol and colazol didn't work either before that.

What happened here? This is an old thread, and suddenly, all of the posts say it's from today. I'm not sure which ones, if any, are new, but I know my first reply and the OP are not.

I was on Asacol for 6 months when my GI switched me to Apriso.  It seems to work better for me than Asacol.  If I remember correctly, it took about 7-10 days to work.  I like taking the 4 pills in the morning as opposed to taking 8 daily of Asacol.  I also started taking Metamucil a month ago, one dose daily, and man oh man, it works.  I tried taking it in the past and never really gave it a chance.  I was dx about a year ago and this is still new to me.  Hope it works for you.

Apriso has worked wonders for me! It took about a week before I started seeing improvements.

Very encouraging posts!  I was just prescribed Apriso 4x/daily to replace Asacol 2 pills 3x/daily. Have several sever side effect at Asacol at teh full dose and the unprocessed pills were showing up in my stool too.

Good to hear it's more effective with a smaller dose. I was kinda weary taking 1.5g all at once and it being less than my daily dose of Asacol (2.4g), but after reading the posts I feel more confident about it.  Hopefully taking 4 pills at once doesn't blow me out of the water again!

Doing Ok. No side effects compared to the Asacol I was taking!

I'm still in a flare and have added Canasa nightly since the flare is now down in the rectum area. It's amazing...when I went off then back on the mesalamine enema while I continued with the same dose of Asacol I had side effects, but not with switching drugs with Apriso.

Hopefully the Apriso is just more effective at a lower dose due to being time released. I read a lot on the internet where the Apriso didn't help. It is only a maintenance dose so hopefully it's maintaining the 15-30cm of flare I used to have!
