My GI prescribed Prednisone 40 mg daily for BM's. How long does Prednisone take before I can see some positive effects?
Thanks.

In my experience usually 1-2 weeks, though it could help after a few days. Are you on any other meds?

For me, it worked right away. But it only kept me from bleeding if I took 30 mgs. Every time I reduced my dosage to 25 mgs, the bleeding came back.

It helped me in a day or 2 days the first time I took it. I ended up relapsing at 2.5mg and had to go back up and it took longer to control the 2nd time. take your time tapering when you get below 10mg.

took 2 weeks for Prednisone (40mg) to improve my diarrhea, a few weeks longer for urgency and mucous and months for the bleeding - became dependent so maybe I didn't respond very much at all... saw side-effects (sleeplessness, being emotional.. almost right away)

At 40 mg., immediately turned off massive diarrhea like a faucet. Below 10 mg. symptoms returned. Need backup meds -- 5ASAs, rectals, suppositories to carry you through the taper of pred and carry you through into maintenance

took ~7 days @ 50mg to start working. Actually I think it was the 8th day after I called Doctor and let him know it wasn't working..that day we went to 60mg but I think it was more my phone call and hearing that it will work. hope you're feeling better today
