I've had UC for so long I can't remember what is normal anymore, asked a female friend yesterday and she said once daily. I have to admit. I got slightly jealous!! Thinking back pre-diagnosis for me I do recall I some days would not go for days, literally. Wonder if that is part of why I have this disease.

anyway...for me I go between 1 and 6 times on average, I keep a log. Problem is the log is usually only kept when I am flaring. I see two 10+ days. Avg is probably 2-3. Pretty sure I'm in remission right now.

I do once or twice a day...depending on how much and what I've eaten the day/days before.

flaring is a different matter.

Riight now I go probably 10-20 times a day unfortuanately. When I am not in a flare I probably go about 1 time per day.

Lately once or twice daily. In a flare, I would go 15+ times a day. Half of those times not much would come out but I would have cramps and pain and urgency.

I am not trying to make you jealous but I typically go one bm every two days, sometimes every 3 days.  I no longer think about the toilet at all.

I go about 4-6 times a day. This seems like alot for me exspecially since they said my colon is clear now on the left side and some mild ulcers and inflammation in my colon. I'm hoping it will go down. This is better from 10-15 a day. I also don't have urgency. I mean I need to find a bathroom but I can usually hold it for a few minutes while I find one.

I think twice each day, but only once some days.
I still have to pee a lot. I think my bladder never had a chance to grow strong with 25 years of active UC!
And I can't break the habit of the pre-emptive bathroom visit...before a meeting, before getting into a car, etc...

On average about 2-3 times per day. Sometimes once, sometimes 4-5. I am basically in remission. Having a few minor issues....

I have active disease... fairly mild, but very stubborn! I usually go 2-3 times in the morning before leaving the house, then 2-3 times in the afternoon/evening. Every time I go there's plenty there... so I don't exactly feel like I'm wasting my time. Do wish it were only once or twice daily though!

Oh, and to MyUC: what I wouldn't give to not have to think about a toilet. Congrats on having things that under control!

**As a note, I have a friend that does not have IBD that goes three times daily. I don't know why that conversation came up, because I wasn't talking about my disease at all in that conversation... but yep, 3 times daily for a non-IBD person. Looking back at my medical records, it says that I stated that I usually went 2-3 times daily before getting this disease. Guess we're all different!

Peety, I still always take a potty break before meetings or car trips. I pee a lot...I guess b/c I drink a lot of water!

glad I posted this. So looking back, including today, I've went 1x/day 5 times in the past month. Good sign on my TCM!! And this 1x was b/c I awake and take caffeine. Glad to hear others are normal out there!

Peety - I too pee a lot. I work from the home so didn't realize how bad an issue it was until I was on an airplane, and also getting up in the middle of the night..have you seen a Dr for that? After Prostate Ultrasound came back a-okay, so did the urine testing. My Dr put me on Cipro and Flomax, which seems to be helping a lot.

For the past year it's been 4X a day and almost always in the morning, my new "normal". Before UC (10 years ago) it would be 1x a day or less as I tended towards C.

Lately, as my colon has been healing more it's been trending less, 3x day and less volume even though I eat the same amount. I eat a fairly high amount of fiber due to nut consumption. I see the trending to less BM's as a sign that my colon is processing and keeping more nutrients so less output.

However when I eat something that my gut hates (mistake) then all bets off. Many many BM's until it's all cleared out, but no D, all solid.

I don't remember what it's like to be normal anymore either. I guess my new normal is about 4-5 times a day but while flaring I can go up 15+ a day. But even when I was in remission, I would still go about 3-5 times a day.

My husband who doesn't have any bowel issues goes sometimes up to 3 or more a day, depending on what he eats.

1 to 5 times a day. I used to only go every 2 or 3 days so this is still a lot for me. It's been up to 20+ so I hate to complain:)
I do find I get a lot more pain if I only go once though.

Pre-diagnosis it was always 2 - 3 (but almost always 2). After diagnosis was 2 - 4 (averaging 3), rarely 5. Last week there was a day i went only once for the day (was so proud of myself) but that was because i hadn't eaten much for the day. Will always go once in the morning and once at night. Sometimes twice in the morning, once in the afternoon and once in the evening.

My parents (who don't have IBD) average about 2 - 4 per day. My suspicion is that they have undisclosed IBS or weak bowels.

1-3 is average for me these days. Before UC I was a solid once a day girl. I worry more about pain, extreme urgency, mucus, blood or non-formed poops rather than frequency.

When non-flaring I go 4-5 times a day. The important thing is not to let diarreah for longer than 2 days. As soon as I have it I start adding Metamucil to 3 times a day, after 2 days I start taking Imodium which slows the process down. If diarreah persists, make sure that you take Potassium with every meal and Magnesium to absorb the Potassium.

pre UC - 1x every few days (2-3 days) ...anytime
in remission (2007-2010) on maintenance drugs (2 mezavants) = 1x day AM like clockwork
right now .. (early phase of hopeful remission) on treatment drugs (4 mezavants and retention enemas) - average 2x day in AM within 2 hrs of waking

Sun: 1 BM
Mon: 6
Tue: 1 or 2
today: 8 - only 2 were of good quality/substance, just now via Enema b/c I was too full/uncomfortable. :-(

Sherry, that's exactly the problem, the box is full of dairy!! :-) Now if it was Vegan(dairy free) chocolate....
