Has a gluten free diet helped anyone with UC?

I am 13 and was diagnosed with UC when I was 11. I have been eating strictly gluten and dairy free for the past months and it has worked wonders for me. I have had the occasional flareup when I slip up in my diet, but otherwise being gluten free has been hard but very rewarding. I also lot some weight cutting out all of the cookies pizza and pasta. There are so many people who are gluten free now they have so many foods for this and also a lot of restaurants have gf menus.

I was on & off Prednisone for five years. Just about every other medication also.


I then got a prescription to Humira. Wasn't doing anything. My GI was thinking it's time to remove my colon.

I went on a strict Gluten Free diet. A few months later I was symptom free. Symptom free for over three years.
I still take Humira but I'm positive it was the Gluten Free diet that did it for me.

I live near Madison WI which is a Gluten Free Friendly city.
Just last week I ate at a Bunky's Cafe, a Gluten Free restaurant. They also have the Silly Yak bakery which Gluten Free. Their bread is just as good if not better than regular bread. Not like the hard tasteless stuff you find in the store.

Silly Yak also ships their bread.

im not sure if gluten is bad or good for me and i dont think i will ever fine out, diet and UC, for me i can work out my wife better and thats saying something,lol

Congrats. That is great news.

I could never have gotten hubby to commit to anything like that so I don't know if it would have helped or made a difference. If it were me I am sure I would have tried every single thing suggested here to see if it would bring about a remission.
