huh, that's odd you mention this macrocytosis- last time I had labs done, about 2 months ago, my GI thought my red blood cells looked a bit "big & clumpy". So we re-did labs, checked some things & they came back fine. he mentioned taking folate supplements, B vitamins, etc.

I was never able to stay off of prednisone for long until I started taking azathioprine at the same time. I had a four-year remission, a brief flare (prednisone to control), and another two-year remission on just that, fish oil, and occasional probiotics. I've been on 175 - 200 mg without any noticeable side-effects or red flags in the bloodwork.

I was put on Imuran this past summer in conjunction with Remicade in attempt to get an extremely bad flare under control. I am sorry to report that I was one of the few cases where Imuran didn't work, and I ended up with pancreastitis and in the hospital for two weeks! Like you said though the chance of that is very low (I was told about a 3% chance), and I just seem to have an extremly stubborn body when it comes to medication!
