Achy Joints with Remicade?

I've been experiencing some pretty achy joints lately...knees, hips, elbows...is it possible it's from Remicade? Anyone else experience this?

Got this after my third infusion, and doc said it could be due to remi or possible Arthritis. I had to come off it and within a few weeks the pain stop. Thankfully the remi had calmed the colitis enough for the imuran to work somewhat, but had to go back on the humira to get into remission. had no problems with the humira, and I am now only on Asacolon as I am pregnant.

I got them too... They gave me' an antinuclear antibodies test and it was a little elevated, so I got switched to humira- no jointaches.

I've also had 3 friends so far come up to me and say my cheeks are all red and flushed...I did see flushing listed as a side effect...hope I don't start getting hit with all sorts of side effects now.

I developed horrendous joint pain in my elbows, wrists, fingers, hips, knees and ankles from Remicade. The pain would travel to different joints and mainly happened at night... it felt like being stabbed in the joint with a knife. My hubby and I would say that every night the boogie man was coming to get me. It was that bad and the whole thing was pretty traumatic. I couldn't walk when it came on. This side effect showed up about a week after my first infusion. It is not something I could have lived with, so I cancelled the rest of my infusions and hoped it would go away. Fortunately, the pain dissipated 6 weeks later once the Remi left my system. I have no lasting effects from it. I decided no more meds and opted for ileostomy surgery instead. I am very happy with the outcome and feel so much better.

I am currently having those symptoms too. It starts about 3 weeks after my infusion and hurts really bad. It is different joints different times too. But it helps my other symptoms so well that I am afraid to let it go. Sorry you are experiencing this as well.

Remicade does this to me too, only my knees and ankles, but so bad that I wind up having to put ice on them several times a day. For me it usually hits fairly soon after an infusion and lasts 2-3 weeks then gets better. Haven't gotten the flushed cheeks but I do get wicked hot flashes....feeling like I'm having menopause at 30! That could be caused more by the prednisone I'm on though?

I've been on remicade since july 2009. I started having joint pain. It has gotten worse. Mine hits right after my infusions and lasts about four weeks. I still have joint pain after that but not as severe. Mine is my knees ankles, wrists, elbows, and neck. It is the remicade for me. I was tested for lupus and RA. The rehmitologist(sp?). Said it is the remicade or my uc. I truly believe it is the remicade because I was fine until that. I'm also soooo tired. I think this is the remicade. I was just checked for lupus because I have a red face. I look like i have to much blush on. I'm on zyrtex because I get a rash and itchy from remicade if I don't take it. I also take prilosec because I get heart burn from the remicade. I get all these side effects from the remicade but it has healed my colon and given me my life back. I can go places and do things. These symptoms are annoying to me but not severe enough for me to stop the remicade. In the morning I feel like I'm 100 years old and I look like I have to much make up on all the time. The rehmitologist said I have rosesa(sp?) but I didn't have this until a couple months ago. I think it is the remicade. I won't go off it until it stops helping me, whether that be not healing my colon and not helping my bathroom issue. I have alittle one at home and I was hoping to get a couple years so if I do need surgery all my kids are older. I will try humira but me and the doc are scared to take me off remicade and humira doesn't work at all.

I was worrying that I was starting to get arthritis.  I have been on remicade since last August.  I received my last treatment in January and immediately following that treatment I have experienced pain in my hands, wrists, hips, lower back and feet.  Also stiffness in my neck.  i'm thinking that these symptoms are similar to the ones you speak of.  I had a blood test testing for inflamation which came back negative.  So I plan on talking to my GI.  I'm hoping it is the remicade and not something else.

My GI confirmed that the pain (described in my reply post above) was probably from Remicade. I felt that there was no way that this degree of pain could be something people would be willing to tolerate. You folks who are willing to live with this are hard core:) I am an artist and a park ranger, and there was no way I would have been able to do either of these things with the joint pain. I was sure the pain was caused by Remicade because I had never experienced pain like this before and it happened about a week after the first infusion. It would have been too much of a coincidence to develop arthritis or have it be from Prednisone (which I had taken many times with no joint pain). My suspicions were confirmed when I stopped taking the Remicade and the pain completely disappeared in 6 weeks. I did get a test for drug induced lupus when I was going through this and it came back negative.

My permanent ileostomy surgery hurt, but no surgical pain ever came close to what I experienced on Remicade. I hated that drug.
