How long can you take hydrocortisone enemas

Because I am trying to conceive (ttc) and I have become dependent on prednisone. (everytime i get off the pred the bleeding comes back)....I have been still taking my 12 asacol pills, 2 canasa and the hydrocortisone enema at night. I have basically been bleeding since end of August. MAYBE a few days here and there without blood. My BM's are fine. No urgency. Last colonoscopy 2 weeks ago showed the proctitis at still an "inch" in my lower rectum.

So my question is....should I stay with this routine? Is it safe to keep doing the steriod enemas night after night?

Am I taking too much asacol? 12 pills isn't cutting it. (I have tried colozal before too).

Doc wants me on 6-MP (imuran) but so far I am not comfortable because of becoming pregnant.

I know I have asked this before ...is okay to just bleed??

I am usually bleeding, and my docs have said not to worry about that. I only get anemic now and then, usually my body can keep up. When I don't have urgency, I'm happy!
It seems the enemas are going to hit that area better than the asacol, so if I were you I would keep it up. It should have the most minimal side effects, but I don't know about the pregnancy issues.

I have used cortifoam for as long as a whole yr BEFORE tapering off of it...I also used it with no issues what so ever while pregnant (back 16 yrs ago)...it is not the same as taking oral pred because not even near the amount gets into your bloodstream rectally compared to taking it orally, that's why there are virtually little to no side effects from it...even being on it for just over a yr straight I never had a single side effect.

Corti foam etc can be used a part of a long term maint program

I'd imagine you could really minimise the amount in your bloodstream by ensuring it's well lubricated...

I'm squirting the liquid from a vitamin E softgel on the tube as a lubricant. Before I started doing this I sometimes noticed a little blood in the tube after taking it out - but now none...

I have been using proctifoam for over three years without any problems.i would be lost without it.

I have proctitis and the hydrocortison enemas are not working anymore. I am in a flare right now plus the tenesmus. What is the next step. Does anyone know what other meds would be more effective? I do not want to go on pred. becasue of side effects.
