One year in remission

Woot!

But yeah, it's been about a year since my last course of pred and I'm still symptom free. No issues from the azathioprine except for occasional fatigue but that could just be me working too hard. I'm feeling pretty great!

Non-UC wise this year has been busy. I've been doing lab rotations and taking courses for my Ph.D and trying to plan a wedding. If anyone has any tips on how to get married without losing your sanity or life savings, they'd be appreciated.

Glad to hear that you're feeling so well! Where do you plan to get married? (Down there or back north?) Definitely keep us posted. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

It's wonderful that you're doing so well! I would recommend eloping if you want a cheap marriage :) If you want a celebration you could host a big dinner party for all your closest friends and relatives, that usually comes out to less thana full on "wedding". You could also do it in the home of someone you know or rent a house that is on the market for the day and hire caterers. The more you do yourself and the more you cut corners, the more you save. It's not easy. I decided I don't want a wedding at all. I am going to elope.

Ugh, I'm so jealous lol
But, you could do it outside, depending on the place it could be cheap or free...
Then the dinner party thing could be at a restaurant or someones house like someone said... make the food yourself (or your family)... you could prolly make cool decorations or something... get like... I dunno... vases at a thrift store or sumpin.
I've got one thing covered, my boyfriend's mom is a pastry chef and we'll totally get a free cake.

I've suggested eloping. The fiance is not having it =(

Also no one we know who we'd be comfortable asking for their house has one that's big enough. Otherwise we'd jump right on the backyard thing. Also (to answer Old Hat's question) we're getting married up north but living in the south...the travel complicates things.

What about renting a house that is empty. Sometimes a house is for sale and empty and they may rent it to you for a day or 2 for a wedding at a much ebtter price than you would rent a catering hall or wedding venue. I was thinking about tryin gto do something like that when I thought I was goign to have a wedding. Now I realized that I don't particularly care for weddings and I don't want one.

Laura-I don't have any special diet. When I'm flaring I avoid irritating foods (fried, high fiber, caffiene, spicy) because they hurt but when I don't have symptoms I eat normally. I do try to eat yogurt fairly often, but most grocers here don't carry the brand I like and if they do it's really expensive. I mostly attribute my remission the the azathioprine I'm taking.

notsosicklygirl: I've never even heard of that before. May have to look into it.

Congrats on your remission.  I am going on 2+ years remission and I also attribute it to the Azathioprine.  No side effects that I can tell.  Again good for you.  On the other stuff I really have nothing to contribute, getting married is just plain not good for sanity or for your wallet.  Sorry it's just the truth.

As for savings on the wedding, check Ebay for dresses. You'll find a lot of NWT dresses from girls who bought a dress, decided they didn't like it, and bought another.

If you're not opposed to doing an early afternoon wedding, you can also get away with having a finger-foods and dessert only reception. The reception is really what kills you on the money. And totally skip the alcohol at the reception.
