Pregnant with uc again???

I learned that if I think I might be having a flare - I am. For the first several years after my diagnosis I questioned whether certain symptoms were flares or not every time...now I have come to the reality that if I have any symptoms at all - diarrhea, blood, urgencies, multiple BM's I am headed into a flare.

I would guess you are flaring. Hemmis don't cause diarrhea. Since you said the night-time BM looks like it might have blood in it I assume you are having more than one BM a day with diarrhea. That sounds like a flare to me. I flared while pregnant too but did not have to take pred. It is my understanding though that pred is not too dangerous past the first trimester. Since you are at 25 weeks and are having twins I am sure your doctor would rather be safe than sorry. Are you on any other meds? I used Rowasa and Lialda for most of my last pregnancy.

I bet this doctor is being more aggressive because you are carrying twins and because you have a history of flaring while pregnant. Rowasa did help me while pregnant so you might ask for it. It is not easy to use with a big pregnant tummy to deal with but it is a very safe drug during pregnancy. I think I would go on the pred at this time if I were in your position. You don't want to take any chances with those babies. I have known several people who had steroid treatment of some kind while pregnant - sometimes they even give you steroids to make sure the babies are developing well if there is a chance of an early delivery - so I think it would be pretty safe.

i took rowasa during my pregnancy and it got my flare under control right away. I have a friend who took presnisone and remicade during her pregnancy with twins and delivered them both full term.
Just do what you need to do to make your pregnancy as enjoyable as possible.

Amk77 I always wondered about what my scope would look like when I was in remission for a long time. I always figured there would be some sort of evidence that the disease had been there...guess that's not true. Thanks ladies for all the advice took my first dose of pred tonight with my lialda :)

I was on pred during my last pregnancy too but was on colazal too. I have been on lialda for over 2 years and have been symptom free until now. I'm thinking the hormones and stress has causedvthis flare. But I love lialda I've not had any problems though tolerating meds in the past

None at all. I switched from colazal to lialda bc I was forgetting to take all the pills with colazal I started with 4 lialdas daily now I'm on 3. I've had uc since dec2006 but this is only my 4 th flare and 3 of the 4 were during or right after my pregnancies.

My first pregnancy was great we had a healthy daughter at 38 weeks I flared for 2 mos during that one. I had awful anxiety during the pregnancy and I'm pretty sure the stresscfrom that caused thevflare. It went from my 20th week until around 28/29 weeks or so. I did wind up getting gestational diabetes could be from the prednisone could be a fluke. So really everything else wad fine. This time I'm pregnant with twins. I have been fine up until 2 weeks ago. It's a flare. So while it's bad bc I hate flaring ( who doesn't) I know just like last time i will get through it. They say if u r in remission before you get pregnant you have a much better chance of making through the pregnancy flare free...so I would work on gaining remission first. I think then it's something like 33% stay the same 33% get better and 33% flare. There are a lot of horror stories out there about uc and pregnancy trust me I've read a lot of them but keep on your meds and talk to ur ob and gastro and stay positive a lot of women with uc have perfectly healthy pregnancies and babies.
