Asacol HD or Apriso?

I have been taking (2 at a time, 3 times a day) 800 mg of Asacol HD regularly since about August. In early January, my GI suggested I try Apriso 0.375 g (4 at a time, once a day). I was having mild problems with the Apriso and circled back to the Asacol HD which kept my remission in check better. I have since lost medical coverage for the time being and all of the Asacol HD or Asacol samples that I had are now gone. I still have a few Apriso samples and figured I could take those for the time being until at least Monday when I could pick up more Asacol HD samples.

Does anyone have experience taking both? Do you think it would be a problem if I took Apriso twice instead of once, just to be safe? I was taking 1600 mg of Asacol 3 times a day, which is equivalent of just under one dosage of Apriso, so wouldn't it make sense to take that more than once?

The Asacol HD savings card is not what it used to be. Without insurance, the medication costs ~$700. The card saves $50. My co-pay for Asacol is $25.

I don't really want to switch to Apriso because I've been successful with Asacol so I don't need to try something else. I just want to hopefully keep things under control today and tomorrow before I can get a few more samples and an eventual co-paid prescription for Asacol.

please don't take this as advise, just stating that my daughter's gi prescribed apriso to take 3pills 3x a day, when the lower dose didn't help.

I'm one of those people that reads
all the studies and PI of products. That being said apriso does not have an indication to treat active ulcerative colitis, it can only be used to maintain. Also I found it odd that in their studies there was barely statistical significance when using apriso or a placebo!!! So u can just et tic race and get the same result basically as apriso. More to the point of your question, you would think spreading out the dose of mesalamine would make sense an work better but not with apriso. Both apriso and lialda studied spreading out te dosages and neither showed any difference. The only drug that has a dose related
response is Asacol HD which will give you results in 9-10 days!!! Lialda
doesn't give results for 8 weeks!

Again all this can be found in the PI! I've been on asacol HD for a year an it's perfect. I take 3 pills 2x per day and I don't have to take it with food or anything andddd with their savings card it takes $50 off my copayment (not $50 off drug as previously stated) so it's FREE for me!!!!
