Does Ulcetrol herbal supplement heal Ulcerative Colitis?

I did some research on herbal remedies for healing inflammation in my colon and took a trip to a local health food store.  I started out thinking I would purchase some L-glutamine but the health food store "expert" sold me on some supplements called: Ulcetrol by NOW.  She claimed that taking two tablets a day would heal the inflammation in my colon.  She was very convincing and claimed her other customers took it for my problem.  I'm kind of a skeptic but I reluctantly purchased them because I'm a pushover. : ) These supplements contain the following:  Calcium Carbonate-70 mg, Zinc- 8 mg, Zinc-L-Carnosine Complex -37.5 mg, L-Carnosine - 28 mg, Mastic Gum - 100mg and slippery elm -100 mg.  She also advised me to stop all my prescription medications.  Which I thought NO WAY!  She realized I wasn't going to do that reminded me to take Ulcetrol one hour before taking my Lialda. Has anyone tried this for their ulcerative colitis?  Please I am searching for an honest opinion on these supplements.  I just don't know.  From the reviews on the internet these supplements seem to be mainly for healing ulcers and not reach the inflammation in the colon.  Did I get duped?  Thank you. 

I would ask your GI his/her opinion. I sometimes wonder about those supplements.. I know someone in peru that swears she has a cure for UC .. its a liquid and you put one or two drops in any drink each day. I'm not sure the name of it but she was going to send it to me. Its fustrating sometimes talking to people who don't have the disease cause they all think they know a cure... maybe someone else here knows about all the ingredients and can tell you if its safe or not but for now I would just put a call in to the GI.. I have to see mine on the 29th so if there is still no answer for you by then Im willing to ask for you and post his answer here

UC is a little understood condition with treatments that are not fully understood. It comes and goes with and without treatment. This makes it very ripe for miracle cure claims. I would not listen to any alternative medicine person that tells you to stop taking your traditional meds.

This is a good source for alternative meds and supplements. You can check those used for your condition and the individual meds. The rating system relates to level of research evidence.

People who work in those stores don't know anything. How much time has she spent studying UC? Probably none.
