Ok, this may be TMI, but when things are going well and you go potty and it is as close to normal that you get... do you smile, say Yeah and walk down the hall back to your office with a smile?  I do...... isn't that sad?  Sheesh... the life of a UC patient is always so exciting....

I remember being relieved when my kids had normal poopy diapers as babies. Now I'm excited when my 19 year old has a normal bowel movement. Yeah, it's come full cirlce ! Lol !!!

Absolutely. I act like its Friday night with the entire weekend free. A good BM can really pick up my mood if I am feeling down.

I never really had bowel issues when I worked fulltime but I do that at home so I am sure I would have done it at work too. I did work part-time when I was flared up and I never had a normal movement so I didn't get to experience the "Yeah!". I always try to avoid work toilets when I can.

Ha ha, I get excited to when I see the "s" shape sitting there. I too wonder if I'll ever go without examining -- it just doesn't seem normal not doing it! Funny thing is that I don't remember if I did it before I was dx'd or not.

I know EXACTLY what you mean.

You probaly think this is funny and gross, hopefully more gross than funny :)
My finacee and I share a lot. I had a GREAT poop earlier last week after having a nasty stomach virus for one day (slept 18 hours the day I had it).

Anyway, I emailed her and told her how great it was. I said "It was so great I could have reused the TP, there was nothing on it!"

She replied "Yay buddy, nothin' but net!"

Cracked me up for hours every time I thought about it.

I'm in normal mode. Once per day 30 mins after rising which is good dont like the facilities here.

LOL....I too always look... I think I've always have (because it is a facinating thing :), when you think about it)

My family has gotten into it and always asked "how" it was.... and are very excited when I can say soft and formed... yes the "S" shape is "fun"  too :) :) :)

Diagnosed: March 2011

Currently: Apriso 4x per day

1st colonoscopy: March 2011

Symptoms started Dec 2010

Flagyl when first diagnosed – 10 days

Hydrocortisone enemas when first diagnosed for 2x day for 10 days

Also:

Myopic Degeneration 2003

Thyroid Issues: 2009 currently on Synthroid

A normal BM???  I should be so lucky!!!  Definitely always checking mine...mostly counting how many Lialda pills are coming out whole or the amount of blood and mucous.  Did I just write that out loud? :)

Yes, I've been counting Asacol lately.
Of course I always look - lol! I like a well-lit bathroom for that reason!

And I have a flashlight on the cabinet next to the commode! :-)

Yeah! James Joyce even immortalized the normal bm in his novel Ulysses, when he wrote that Leopold Bloom felt "a comfortable loosening of his bowels". And good thing, too-- because he had to unload in an outhouse! Lonie-- an "s-shape", LOL!!!!!!!! Never made any like that, even before UC ... in elementary school, though, we used to call them "braids"! / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

chris and i always cheer for good poops!

and even as a normal healthy pooper, i always check before flushing. have all my life. easiest way to be sure everything is going along the right way.

Ha ha, Old Hat! I think somewhere along the line heard on a commercial that Dr. Oz was going to talk about colon issues so I taped the show that day and he said that good bowel movements should be in an "S" shape. I had a good laugh about that, and mumbled that I'm just happy with anything formed. Now when I do an "S" shape I just know that Dr. Oz would be so proud of me, lol. Terrible that I picture him in my mind after a perfect bowel movement....actually that's kind of weird. ha.

I only pooped two times yesterday, and, of course, I looked. While they weren't perfect, they were the best I've seen in months! I was giddy all day.

Lonie-- Dr. Oz reported in a recent issue of AARP Magazine that he had a colonoscopy where a polyp was found-- unexpectedly! So that gave him something else to write about, instead of the s-shape. (LOL!) / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Yeah I've been more or less normal for a year now and I still inspect my poo and get super happy when I have a nice log.

Actually I think my fiance has more abnormal poos than me at this point.

I 've gone as far as wanting to take a picture if it hahahahaha when it was somewhat normal but its been a long time.
