ColitisBoy, to add to what DavisD said...I got a jpouch as I was extremely sick. Was 15 years old with constant severe pain, ate nothing but eggs and toast, on regular high dose of prednisone, weighted 86lbs and was white as a ghost with no energy due to blood loss. Or I guess I should say I got an ileostomy because of that... and then I wanted the pouch to keep everything internal.
But to asnwer your question. With a jpouch, I actually go to the bathroom 1-2 times during the night and then always when I get up too. Doesn't really bother me though as it's just what I"m used to. I probably use the bathroom 10x per day, but I will just empty my pouch whenever I go to the bathroom to go pee...and also always before leaving the house, before a meeting at work, etc. And then it depends on what and how much I eat. As for how long it takes...no different than people with "normal" systems.
As for what I don't like....I guess is that I'm often in fear of getting pouchitis (but still, much better than colitis issues) and also of blockages. And the most annoying part that affects me is having to go after eating (whereas with the ileostomy I only had to empty the bag when getting full). I'm always worry when going to other people's houses due to having to use their washroom (but this of course is jpouch vd ileostomy). And the surgeries aren't fun. The 3rd one is easy compared to the first two but those were difficult and painful as it's abdominal (and personally I hate that NG tube they put down your nose). Also...I had issues with in getting pregnant with both kids due to scar tissue from the all my surgeries...but then again, I'm guessing from your name, that wouldn't matter in your case.
