a UC story in the media

Yeah, some of the comments were just ridiculous. The editor warned me that Salon.com commenters can be pretty harsh, but it usually doesn't reflect the way the piece is being received overall. I've had a lot of people email me since it went up to tell me they had no idea what UC was like.

When I started writing my book about living with UC I was shocked at just how little there is written about it out there. The book, btw, is obviously a lot more complete and really covers all the psychological damage and nasty side effects we get. I just couldn't put much into 2,000 words.

I'm sure if someone was writing about the horrible side effects of AIDS or cancer, people wouldn't have freaked out about how TMI it was. It's kind of pathetic that poop scares some people that much :)

Oh, and Daniel, I really enjoyed what you wrote as well! I've really appreciated everyone's honest, heartbreaking thoughts here over the years.

I frequently browse Salon.com and was excited to stumble upon your story...it was so well-written, funny, and REAL! Even though I get pretty discouraged with my UC, it helps to know that I am not alone. I really admire you for being able to write about this terrible disease with humor, courage, and honesty. I look forward to the release of your book, I'm sure it will be great.
