Remicade update - can it be working already?

I have only pooped once in the last 24 hours down from about 10 times a day and there was no blood (first time since Feb 28) and it was ginormus (about as long as my colon I think) and fully formed too. Yippee!

I am scared to be hopeful to only be let down again but at least I am headed in the right direction.

I am a bit hot but it has been very muggy the last couple of days and so is everyone else I work with, so not really sure on the temp yet. 

I just went from 20 to 15mg of pred on Tuesday and tapering by 5mg every two weeks.

Sounds positive except for the 5 foot long poo..lol.

Yes, it is possible. After my first infusion I went from 19x a day to about 4-5 within a couple of days. Glad you are feeling better.

Beth; that happened to me too! The morning after my infusion I had one huge long bm (I thought it was as long as my colon too!) and then started normal bm's with no blood. I didn't want to jinx myself either, but I'm still doing well even after being off of it for about six months now. Take care, glad to hear things are going well!

     Hope it continues working for you.  I noticed you posted you have kidney disease.  I didn't realize you could go on Remicade with kidney disease.

Well, I had been on it for 5 1/2 years, and then had a clear colonoscopy in August of 2009. My doc had told me I could go off of it and on to maintenance meds, but I stayed on it another 6 months because I was so afraid to go back to being sick! But, last October I had a reaction to it, and I figured it was my body telling me I didn't really need it anymore, so I went off of it, and stayed on Asacol at 8 pills a day. In February I had another colonoscopy that again showed my colon clear and free of polyps or ulcers, so my new doctor lowered my dose to 6 pills per day. Initially I was dx'd with "extremely chronic left sided Ulcerative Colitis." So guess the Remi did it's job. Hope the remission continues!

That's awesome Beth. I have heard of people responding this quickly to Remicade so I think it is possible! I am so happy you've had such a great experience. Let's hope it continues to work this well for you. Thanks for the wonderful poop description. ;)

NSG - lol, I just had to share that : )

Christine - I asked my Kidney Doc about it previously and he said it was ok for me to go on it and actually they were not sure how it would affect my kidney's, good or bad, I am keeping an eye on my protein loss, which is the problem I have. It got better the first two days after the infusion but now is back to where it was......I'd love for it to work on both.

Yay, that's great news! I'm about to start Rem for the 1st time and it makes me slightly more hopeful that it will work :)

It worked for me immediately.
I was so hopeful and excited that I got teary during my first infusion. Maybe that helped!
