Thanks Wavefunction for your advice. :) It's nice knowing a fellow 6th grade teacher is in the same boat as me! :) I cannot run but can do dance aerobics everyday at home. I agree that with counting calories and exercise, the weight can come off easily. How do you keep track of counting calories? Do you look up the calories for each meal, food item, etc? Any advice would be great! :)

Someone else suggested Weight Watchers. That's actually a very good idea but I believe you have to pay for it. Instead of using calories, Weight Watchers teaches you a pretty handy point system whereby you can eat some foods and not others, save up points and then splurge every once and awhile without it affecting your diet. I have a few friends who have used Weight Watchers with great success.
I just count calories though because it's easier and more of a no-brainer. That and I didn't want to spend the money.
Anyway, almost everything you buy is marked with how many calories are in it and you can always Google calorie information pretty easily. After a few weeks of doing this, you won't even really need to look stuff up anymore because you'll know just by looking at it (for example, if I see a chocolate bar I know it's probably between 250-350 calories, I know a can of pop is around 150 calories and a bottle is around 300 calories, etc).
You should find out how many calories you should be eating per day, too. It goes by weight and a few other factors. I have to eat 2000 calories per day to maintain my current weight but if I eat more than that, I gain weight and if I eat less, I slowly lose weight. If you limit yourself to 1500 calories a day, you'll have to A) be creative with your food if you want to be full without going over the calories, this would involve eating salads without salad dressing and so forth and B) burn off calories to make that number even lower, like if you eat 1500 calories a day and burn off 500 by running--then you've only eaten 1000 calories a day and will be able to lose more than a pound every week! :)
