You have UC - how about your kids?

my opinion is to forget about this.

yes, there is higher risk for your siblings to have UC than normal population since you've got it.

but if you will stress yourself over this matter you will do nothing but to agravate your symphoms....

if it will happend it will happend, you can do nothing about it (just keep them on a healthy natural diet and out of processed foods). if that will happend you will deal with it at it's propper time.

do not stress yourself over it.

Both of my kids do not have Uc however, my daughter gets a lot of "tummy" issues. She will get D for no apparent reason - or if there is, it may be food related (she has many allergies). If I see either of my kids getting this, my bet would be on my daughter.

But I try not to think about it and if the time comes then we will deal with it.

     What a coincidence.  I was just reading this post and was ready to reply that to my knowledge my daughters and grandchildren do not suffer with IBD.  However, my daughter phoned and told me she is taking my granddaughter to the gastro doctor today because she has been getting stomach pain and diarrhea.  My granddaughter is 14 yrs old and a top notch student.  She is extremely hard on herself and if she doesn't get straight A's she frets about it. 

     I am wondering if this disease skips a generation, as my paternal grandmother had cancer of the rectum.  She passed in 1952 but suffered with symptoms that I had when I had ulcerative proctitis.  I had surgery last June.

I didn't get IBD until my late 20s and I haven't told my parents. Hopefully I don't have to tell them. I wonder if one of them has IBD, I don't think so.

My Dad has UC and I have it, so since it hasn't skipped a generation, I have a feeling that at least one of my children will have it once I have a baby.

No history of UC in my family that I have found. Tho 2 cases of colon cancer. I have 2 children under 5. My GI said that if 1 parent has UC then there is a 15% chance that your child will get it, 50% if both parents have it. I nursed both of my children in hopes that would set up their gut with good flora from the beginning (I was not breastfed).

So far, none of my kids are affected. But then again, I believe my colitis is from massive exposure to Malathion spraying in the San Fernando Valley where myself and two others, who were watching the copters spray and drench us, all came down with this within a week of each other almost ten years to date

Yes, sadly, it is true. None of us have any instance of it in our familes and I went back 200 years...All I know is we were drinking beer, getting saturated by the Malathion from overhead helicopters. I guess when they said to cover your car and bring your pets in, myself and my friends were too dumb to put two and two together. It was actually a doctor at work who showed me the statistics of UC in the San Fernando Valley and how high they were, along with the class action lawsuits, that put the puzzle together for me. It is, after all, considered a Migrant worker disease. They are in the fields, exposed to high levels of Malathion. If you are suseptible, after high doses, UC will appears within 5 to 10 years. Guess I won the lottery on this!

Sweetie...remember as well that I chose to not have kids because of my own inherited issues. One cannot beat UC.

I'm the only one in my family w/ UC. Both my parents just had colonoscopies (they are in there late 50s) and both were clear. I try, try not to worry about my son. But I look at his poop entirely too much looking for an signs of UC.
