imuran, just got a phone call from doc

hi all, i when for my bloods on fri and got a phone call 17.00pm today my time, my GP has tole me to stop my imuran,as my white bloods are low at 2.8 she said anything under 4.0 is bad, she said that she will fax my GI,and that i should come back in 2weeks for more blood tests,this has freaked me out and now the doctors are closed for today can any1 who is taking or knows anything about this please inform me as best you can asap. thanks

Pauly, this happened to me as well while I was on 6mp. My counts dropped really low, to 1 or below. 2.8 isn't terrible and you aren't at high risk for infection, it's not where you want to be but it shouldn't be too worrisome. This is why we get our blood checked regularly. I had to stop 6mp for a month or so until my counts went back up into the normal range. Now I've started 6mp again and I have to have blood work more frequently until we see if I can tolerate it at a lower dose.

Try not to stress, things will get worked out, they will probably lower your dose.

Pauly - I agree with notsosckgrl.  That has not happened to me but based on conversations with my doctor I think he would follow the same plan as notsosckgrl's did.  You might need a lower dose.  That is why we have the regular bloodwork.  It is good that this was caught before your count dropped too low.
