Just thought I'd inform whoever is interested that I am trying this therapy.

I realize this topic has had alot of postings from another member here so if I don't get any interest I don't know how much effort I'm put into keeping everyone up to date.

I ingested the helminths last wednesday so I won't see any effects until they mature and make a home, about 3 months (or more) but I should be on a low enough dose of prednisone by then to see some positives.

keep your fingers crossed for me.

I'm trying the human whipworms for colitis and the hookworms which will help with celiac disease in the small intestine. 1000 whipworm and 35 hookworm.

I asked my GI if he knew about helminths therapy and he didnt know anything about it :(

Good luck. Please keep us posted here on your progress! If you do feel better, it would be very interesting if you could have an endoscopy and a colonoscopy afterwards to see how many worms survived and made into the colon and the small intestine. I hope you feel better very soon.

In the meantime, check your vitamin D blood levels. If you're below 50ng/ml, start supplementing with at least 5000IU a day as soon as possible.

Yes I am taking Vit D and magnesium.  I'm very optimistic about this, I heard about it ages ago and its always stuck with me, it took the idea of surgery for me to really get on it though.  thanks for the support, I'll keep you posted when there is anything to report.

Never heard of this therapy here in Italy, I have to look it up to understand more..so on Tues when I see my Gi for third Remicade/Infliximab infusion I can ask him and have a laugh...I bet he never heard of it.. turn

Thegremling, our daughter's pediatric GI in Rome has heard of it, as well as fecal transplant and LDN etc. He's the top pediatric GI in the country and very up on research, so your GI might know about it as well. The helminiths are actually a lot easier to get in Europe than in the US.

My Gi is in Milan, and some times I am under the impression he is a bit too conservative, but on the other hand I do not have 100% faith in Doctors in general, so I suppose that is my problem!

Me neither but I was somewhat comforted to know he knew of these things. Not like he was supportive of them in any way (he actually lied and said LDN was shown to be ineffective when in fact early trials show it's quite promising for crohn's).

I really look forward to hearing your results! I'll keep my fingers crossed that it works really well for you!

I did a Fecal Transplant a couple years ago and it worked for ~4 months. I didn't follow the world's best protocol though (only 1 transplant, on my own in the bathroom, with wife as donor), so that could be part of the reason it didn't last longer. I've been too lazy to do it again, although my wife keeps asking when she can donate (she was pretty excited that it worked).

I guarantee GI's have heard of this therapy but the drug companies have no way to make money off it so no GI will "prescribe" this treatment unless they are awesome. We need a REAL double blind trial on this therapy.

Doctors typically don't advocate a treatment unless there is extensive research behind it. Partly because of liability, but probably more because they really want to "do no harm". For many, it is better to prescribe a marginally effective treatment with known side effects and benefits, than an unknown drug/treatment with potentially significant benefits.

My GI is open to this treatment. I've mentioned it to her and she said she knows someone who has done it with good results, not under her medical care but a friend of hers who was very ill with Chrons. That's one of the reasons I like my GI, she is interested in alternative treatments. Becuase of liability, she may not be able to prescribe me anything too "out there", at least I know she will treat me if I take the worms and I have a horrible experience. They can't prescribe worms in the US anyway, it's not FDA approved. There is no lab producing sterile ova that we can get at a pharmacy. We can't really point a finger at the doctors, it's more the researchers and the FDA for moving so slow to get statistics on safety. Is it a bad thing? That depends on how you see it. Some people appreciate thorough studies before trying something, others would prefer to have access to experimental treatment, you can't please everyone. I do think there are ways to make money off worms, not for GI's, not now, because it's not approved but when/if it is, there will be money to be made. Ask the people who started Autoimmune Therapies. I am sure they are banking!! The thing about this treatment is, it's like Remicade, it works better for some than it does for others. No guarantees. I'd prefer worms over chemicals but that's just me.

Unfortunately, if they did produce sterile worms the therapy probably wouldn't work. The "dirtiness" of the worms, and the extra bacteria/viruses that the worms carry, is probably what really benefits those who try the therapy.

If you read Autoimmune Therapies, it sounds like they are working under pretty sterile conditions. It's comforting to know that they do keep to a high standard. I joined their yahoo group, there is a ton of info there.

can you use Ovamed pig whipworm therapy along with probiotics or do the probiotics and lactic acid in the probiotic, kill the parasites?  Anybody have any science on this information to share would be so appreciated.  I cannot afford to kill the worms with yogurt with the cost and I need intestinal flora for a healthy gut.  There must be a logical explanation about the probiotic and parasite that is factual out there.  Anybody know?  thanks
