need a good pain reliever

If you can get an Rx for Tramadol, I find that a good, easy on my body pain killer. I can't handle anything stronger.

I dont know if I would take tramadol if you cant tolerate advil... I believe theyre in the same drug class....
I just had an appointment with my GE and he said not to take any narcotics and they will complicate things...

I got a prescription from my Dr for Tylenol #3 (with codeine). I only take them for period pain, and they work like a charm!

My doctor once offered to prescribe lortab for my cramps. I am not sure if that would do the trick or is something you want to try, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Also, if you use tampons, look into a different option. When I used tampons 100% of the time, my periods were heavier, longer, and much more painful. Every bit of the symptoms were worse, especially cramps. I would find myself taking tons of midol, ibuprofen, tylenol - nothing worked. Someone suggested switching to pads because the tampons made their periods worse. I tried it and found immediate relief. I've been using mostly pads for about 3 years now (I use tampons when I need something more convenient, but I normally only use 2-5 total throughout my entire period and never on the first day) and now my cramps are so minimal that 3 ibuprofen do the trick.

I know, pads are gross, I hate them too, but it's worth it. There's also the Diva cups that people rave about, never tried them personally though. Birth control also helps if that's an option.

I'm so glad I don't get those horrid cramps anymore! My doc gave me Darvocet, but since they stopped putting it on the market, I think I would be lost today if I needed it. Right now I take Tylonel Arthritis (it has higher mg's) for my body pains. But you can ask the doc for stronger pain meds such as Tylonel #3, Vicodin, Percocet, Tramadol (Tramadol is useless in my opinion btw). A heating pad helps or those stick on air activated charcoal wraps.

thanks for all the great advice, I will definitely try some. Pain has been better I have been exercising for 30 min a day for a little over a week now, maybe that is helping me.

I forgot about the good old heating pad. I used that for uc cramps before.

@Michelejc - I think Aleve is the brand name for naproxen.....

I usually take oxycontin or dihydrocodein, works pretty well but gets you pretty duffed up for a while so wouldn't take them during the day if your planning on doing things like work etc! but good to take at night time when bed time is near.

Tramadols do zero for me.

Tramadol (Ultram) is not in the same class as Advil, Aleve, etc.  It is NOT an NSAID so I would ask your Dr to give you an RX for that. 

To the person who said they can't take Anaprox but is now taking Aleve...they are the same thing!    It really scares me that so many Dr's are not aware that those with Crohn's and UC cannot take any form of Ibuprofen, NSAID's, motrin.  PLEASE google whatever meds your Dr prescribes!!  And talk to a pharmacist!  Sadly most Dr's are not well versed in the drugs they prescribe.  A pharmacist and google are always your best bet!

 

I've been looking for a good pain reliever for years... Tramadol worked ok but now my doc won't prescribe me any. Which is odd considering I would only take a couple in a month. It's not like I was coming to him for a new prescription for them every week like an addict.

Advil, Aspirin, and Naproxem are guaranteed to give me a bad flare. Tylenol doesn't do a thing unless I take more than recommended and then it's bad for the liver.

There has to be a better way.
