Had my third remicade infusion 6 days ago.  I went to my horseback riding lesson and was working with a very challenging horse.  It took a lot of strength and stamina to keep him under control.  While I was taking the horse out to the pasture, I suddenly couldn't breathe.  I sat on the ground gulping for air.  The experience frightened me so badly that I start crying - making it difficult to take in air.  Everyone came to help and I finally calmed down and was able to breathe normally.  I think it was dehydration and frustration from having difficulty controling the horse.  However, I would like to know if anyone else has had or is having difficulty with shortness of breath while excercising.  Please share as I would like to know.  Thanks

Diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis 12/2010

Medications: Remicade (third infusion); Prednisone 5 mg every other day (titrating down); hydrocortizone enema's; Adderall XR 30mg; Asacol 800 HD mg 3x day; Iron 2x day; Folic Acid; D-3 1000; Vitamin 400 i.u every other day.

Did they give you Benedryl before your infusions, they always did for me, maybe even steroids too. They always checked my bloodpressure a few times during my infusions to check for allergic reactions. UC leaves me short of breath often. Hope u are feeling better. Be so careful to stay away from anyone sick,wash hands often, and don't cut or hurt yourself in the slightest. Remicade opens you up to many opportunistic infections. Keep having fun!

Just throwing this idea out as well - Have you ever had a panic attack? I've never had to take long doses of Pred, but it seems to make me susceptible to panic attacks where I can't breathe.

I think quite a few of us have symptoms of asthma. It makes sense considering UC and asthma are both immune system problems involving inflammation.

Please go see your doctor as soon as possible. If you have asthma, it isn't something to procrastinate about.

Its really scary when you can't breathe! Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

I had an episode of not being able to breathe for a few moments 2 years ago which I didn't do anything about at the time. A week later I got other symptoms (extreme pain in my back, and eventually more breathlessness) - in the end it turned out I had blood clots in my lungs (pulmonary embolism or PE), and that was what had caused the breathlessness. UC is an increased risk factor for PE, so you should get it checked out - its not very likely, but you need to get it ruled out.


UC diagnosed in 2000
Meds: Dipentum (olsalazine sodium)
Currently in remission

Take a look at this post, it explains remicade side effects. Poor Kelly had problems breathing, perhaps like you.
