having a hard time keeping enema inside any advice??

Hello everyone. Saturday night first salofalk enema, U2 concert in a big stadium next to my house (yes can hear them), laying down on my left side as I write and well.. gosh the messy enema!!!
I would like your advice on how to insert it and put all the liquid inside for maximum treatment cause at the moment im leaking!!!!
must be U2 singing saturday leaky saturday! smhair

Did you squeeze the air out before inserting?

i did! It has a bit of lube on it and i puhed it out until i see some liquid. Shaked the bottle too before insertion.
Tried the position on my left as well as mmmm my bum up on my knees.
i think i managed to put 80 pourcent of my bottle but not whole.

I just started using Salofalk enemas too. I find squeezing the bottle slowly so the liquid comes out slowly helps. Squeezing them too quickly causes a lot of rectal pressure.

80% is fine, it's hard to squeeze every last bit out

make sure to insert the nozzle all the way tournevice, and don;'t worry if you don't get 100% in it. I was nervous about leakage at first too, slept with a towel under me for a few weeks. It gets easier over time. I think that depending on how much inflammation you have too might make it harder or easier to retain it. Do the best you can and know that it can take a while.

The liquid does stain so I always covered the nozzle with a tissue to get the air out the Salofolk have a bit of gel in the tip at first and you need a fair bit of pressure to push it out before the medicine comes out. I would push out this gel, then the air ... and then insert. IF you are having BM's through the day/ evening, try to time it so you can use the enema after having had a BM (but not right, right away, allow 10- 15 minutes for your bowels to settle down).

Stick with it, it has helped many many of us on here. Bonne Chance.

My suggestion after using these things for the past week is just to lay down as long as you can after taking the enema. And don't worry too much about occasionally having to let one go after 30 minutes or so. I've done that a couple times and they're still helping so much. Don't give up!

wow thanks everyone for you help! Its true it can be messy im used to the suppositories...
But strangely enough yesterday i felt the liquid gave me a calming coating... is it true or was I dreaming of it ahaha but i felt a calm feeling after the mess.
It gonna be difficult for me to insert it after a BM cause all my BMs are in the morning and one afeter lunch and im leaving for work at 7.30 am and have to rush in the toilets when i arrived at work. i couldnt do it after lunch as i work in a store as a visual merchandiser and window displayer and its vry physial and i stand all the time!
What position of insertion would be best then? they suggest on the left side or well mmmmm doggy style?

0. be sure your colon is emptied before.
1. squeeze all the air.
2. lay down on your left side. your colon will be lower than your anus and the enema will leak easier into your gut.
3. insert the nozzle all the way and gently squeeze the enema content not to put pressure on an already inflamed rectum.
4. it would be perfect if you remain on the same position - laid down on your LEFT SIDE - for about 30 mins in order to let the enema content dissipate inside your rectum&sigmoid. it will also remove the pressure from your anus sphincter and after 30 mins your sphincter will be in a better shape and the enema will be better retained.

tip - do this before bedtime and try to go to sleep immediately after inserting the enema on your left side.

thanks very much! I did all of those yesterday. after inserting it i didnt move until i fell asleep but still made sure i did 30 minutes on my left side.
im just worried about empty bowels. but my last bm of the day is usually after lunch i never have one during the evening though maybe some mucus.
ill stick to it and lets hope it works.

Never used those but I used the cortisone enemas for years. If I was flaring horribly I would save one of the bottles and fill it up with a little warm water and use it first and let it right back out. When I flared severely I would put one in and end up evacuating it right back out, which is 7-10$ right down the toilet.

Something else, I would only use about 1/3 of it to start, if it held after 10 minutes I would use a little more to get me up to about 1/2 of the bottle. I would wash the tip then use the other half next time. 1/2 bottle in all night far outways 100% of bottle for 30 minutes in. I think I watched a whole season of True Blood once laying on my left side in the bathroom, lol.

when i mentioned after a BM i did still mean at night before bed (if you are having BMs through evening) - they are best retained at night in my opinion- I wouldn't even try one during day unless I was able to lay down for a few hours... - leakage could have been from urgency at night but if you are not going at night then no worries...

thanks canadagal! Yes im a lucky one for not having any BM at night even my boyfriend says i dont have gas during my sleep (maybe hes just being polite ahah) so i take in the best moment for me is in bed before falling alseep.
aha i can only imagine true blood and enemas thats a great mix!
maybe its the occasion for me to start trailer park boys on enemas i bet its a good mix :P
How long it took all of you for the enemas to work properly?

For me, within a week or so, it had helped a lot with urgency and frequency. It took a couple months to get rid of all symptoms for me (I had been in a year long flare), but I think each case will be different based on your inflammation.

well i never been much higher than 500mg dose daily (one suppository) so a 4g can work quite fast in my case. Than again im ready to do anything before using preds (even nicotine patches) but then again if i was under medicated for year just putting my body on 4g a day can mean remission in a while.
I still manage though to have no more than 4 bm a day and no bloody D.
Urgencies are still there but can wait a few minutes more wich i couldnt 2 years ago. So its really a case of finding the right dose and meds and cruise on it. I cant wait to have less symptoms andbe able to take a bike ride at 7 am.
