Well this wasn't so much of a clinical trial as it was an information gathering exercise about the "social ramifications" of FT.

This part is disappointing:

From the article said...
There are many things we do not yet know about the risks and benefits of FMT, the authors agreed. The safety of such a treatment and broader implications of risk remain unconfirmed, so careful preparation and more study is necessary before this can be offered to patients with ulcerative colitis.

The doc did say that they were thinking of starting to offer the procedure this fall. I hope they do. Sounds like the advocacy of U.C. sufferers (constantly asking about it for one thing) is paying off.

The combo antibiotic therapy put me into remission.

I now believe that the fusobacterium destroys the ecology of the gut which leads to UC. FT will bring the gut ecology back in balance but eventually the fasobacterium will destroy the ecology of the gut again.

This is just my theory

I'm so happy that the medical establishment is finally willing to investigate this treatment.

BTW, there is a doctor who does the FT in Oklahoma City.

But apparently only for C. Difficilis cases. Maybe he can be convinced to do it for UC patients...

me too Lady V - all treatments, procedures, medications come with risk...and not one thing works for everyone....but the mere fact that it is being reviewed is progress.

If that were the case, then at least one or two of Borody's six patients would have had a relapse in the 10-15 years they were each in perfect, clean remission without maintenance drugs.

Everytime someone claims a singular cause for all UC, and a singular treatment alongside it, it is easily refuted. It should also be noted that many on this forum tried FT at home and had little success. Of course, the methods or donors they used could be the cause, but it should also be recognized that FT still may not work for everyone.

Either way, this is brilliant to see. I'd have this done in a heartbeat if I could afford to go to NY and see Dr. G.

I'm glad they're gathering more information on this procedure. Perhaps it'll lead to a US trial soon enough.

I've asked my GI and my GP, both have said no doctor would do the procedure because they'd want to protect their practice. I can see why no doctor would. Stringent rules, high chance of failure and they'd have to financially support the trial.
I believe we need more knowledge about FT, and hopefully this information gathering will give us another treatment.
