Besides medication, what is your # 1 -for a lack of better words - thing that you do to help control your UC?
Diet modification, based primarily on SCD Specific Carbohydrate Diet but modified to remove some foods that my gut doesn't handle. Diet mod. gave me remission when all the Rx meds in 10 years did not. When I eliminated gluten my bleeding stopped. Other symptoms took longer to eradicate.
In addition to modified-SCD I also take probiotic VSL#3.
I second all of this. Along with exercise and drinking a lot of water.
I cut out dairy and most of my symptoms went away. Live a healthy life and you're more likely to keep IBD at bay.Pretty much the same thing: No soda pop, limited bread, L-glutamine, couple sulfasalazine here and there. That pretty much does it. Fish and spinach if I get into trouble and a VSL3, but I no longer take a zillion things, I just eat mostly real food and plenty of real sugar. Yogurt yes, milk no. It has been a year since a flare and while at the pool with my daughter and her friends two other young girls came up and asked me if I just competed in a bodybuilding contest - so I am gaining which is all the proof I need that things are going well. Hydration is paramount the next 60 days when I usually flare.
