bowel prep when flaring

I am currently in a flare, was bleeding heavily a week ago but that has subsided but now i have a colonoscopy in 2 days and am scared the bowel prep is going to make my flare worse and make me start bleeding again

i have been generally well for all of my colonoscopys except one, i was in hospital and the prep gave me so much pain i'm now kindof scared to have it again.

Does anyone think bowel preps can increase your inflamation and make you sicker for the coming days after it?

I can't speak for others, however I found my bowel prep VERY rough and irritating to my colon.

I think it's probably another one of those things that we all respond differently.

I've only had 1 colonoscopy and the prep didn't make me any worse.  I was flaring as it was the colonoscopy that dx'd me.

I've had many scopes and each time is different on how my body is going to respond. Sometimes the prep aggravates things and other times it doesn't.

My first flare and scope a year later were both during flares. The prep was OK and I didn't notice any worse of a flare.

Which one will you be using?

Consider rectal meds as well after the scope.

Depending on the amount of fecal matter (sorry for lack of better words) in your BMs, I'd say it's up to you to go ahead with the prep. I've had two colonoscopies in the last two months and refused to do the prep due to the fact I wasn't able to eat much and only expelling blood and mucus (I basically knew there was nothing in there). If your symptoms aren't too severe and your BMs contain more than blood and mucus, you should consider it (or at least take half of the prep and see how it goes pain/symptom-wise), otherwise the doc may not get a complete picture of your colon when scoped.

I was hospitalized with a flare and on liquids only for a few days which made for a great colonoscopy prep!

Yikes, sounds similar to my story - currently fighting the good fight at the moment as well. Wish you the best and an expedient recovery!

I have not found the preps to increase my flare symptoms in general, but they sure have made my butt sore! And more so if I've been flaring. I do best applying a baby's diaper rash ointment on my bottom.

hey thanks for the response guys,

prep wasnt too bad, i had abit of bleeding after the scope from biopsys

moderate to severe left sided colitis, coulda been worse but whattya do :)

Did the doc recommend any treatment, meds, etc...?

the doc reccomended remicade or surgery lol

im starting LDN tomoro and giving it a while and if that doesn't work im having remicade

Do you know which type you got: oral vs. transdermal?

Dosage? Filler?

i got oral, 1.5mg, 3mg and 4.5mg capsules

the filler is avicel which i know you had a problem with but i'll see how it goes, if i start getting sicker ill try a different filler

Good luck to you with LDN - I hope you get good results quickly.

 Just be on the look-out for avicel filler reactions: headache, increased liquid D, stomach pain.

no worries ill let you know how i go :) im still taking prednisolone though does anyone know if this is a problem?

got down to 25mg and was bleeding heavily so bumped it up for a few days, today i had 30mg and i'm okay, but i hope to taper 5mg every ten days or so
