hair loss?

Hey, did anyone experience and hair loss BEFORE taking medication for their UC? For the past month or so, I've been losing hair like crazy!! It's been coming out in like 5 pieces at a time, multiple times. Whenever I run my fingers through my hair, I pull some out. I've always had thick hair, and I now notice a significant change in the thickness. It seems to really be thinning. I know it can be a side effect of the medication, but, this started before I started taking anything. Is it possible it could be related to my UC? Or stress? I am a very stressed out anxious person. But I didn't think stress could make me lose this much hair! I'm going crazy thinking I'll wind up bald! Am I over reacting? Help!

What meds are you on? I hear when people taper down there prednisone hair loss is bad but i have not experienced that side effect myself i seem to just be getting fat haha :(. I think you should see a GP its unusual if its before meds?x

yeah, i am just on Lialda and Librax, but yes this did start before I started taking anything. Don't know if it is related to my UC or not, so was wondering if anyone else out there has experienced this!

My only hair loss was due to a zinc definciency... you need to get a blood test to check that. I don't know if it happened because of my flare or pred... I'm on pred now but my hair's fine. Maybe you can get your zinc levels checked?

I took those - no hair loss.

When I did have hair loss missing vitamins may have helped.

JaiJai,

Many UCers have problems with absorption of nutrients, etc... due to their faulty alimentary system, and that is the reason you may be losing hair before having taken medications. Could also be related to Leaky Gut Syndrome, which most doctors do NOT believe in.

Yes, I had a lot of hair loss that I believe was due to the effects of my flare and not any medication.

Here is, I hope, a link to a recent thread with a nearly identical title as yours!  I actually thought it was the same thread at first and was a bit confused, LOL.  (The older thread is called "hair loss" vs yours called "hair loss?")
