I was diagnosed with proctitis in April. I used Rowasa enemas for two weeks and that was it. I fought with my GI over getting another script for them as I had heard 2 weeks was not long enough to use them. I remained symptom free until I started having rectal itching. I called the GI doc and his nurse called in a script for a cream for me to use. It says "hydrocortisone Acetate 2.5%-Pramoxine HCL 1%" I used the cream twice a day for two weeks and I still had itching. Plus, when I inserted the cream, it sort of burned the inside of the beginning of my rectum for a few minutes. I called the GI doc back and his nurse told me the doctor wants me to see a dermatologist for my itching. They couldn't give me an answer as to why the cream would burn. I swear all of this is related to the proctitis. I'm quite embarrassed to see a dermatologist for this as I don't think this is really their specialty. I increased my Culturelle to two times a day and the rectal itching seemed to go away. Not sure if it was coincidence or not.
I'm happy the itching stopped but my upper belly seems bloated and now I'm having rectal pain again. I had this rectal pain when I had the proctitis. It's difficult to pinpoint the area that hurts. It seems internal somewhere like a constant dull ache. I'm not having any bleeding or mucous. I do feel my hemmies acting up again. But I also feel like something is out of whack in my tailbone. I feel like I'm going nuts. I don't know if I'm starting to flare or I pulled a muscle or something exercising. I've recently increased my exercising. The rectal pain seems to hurt more as I'm up walking around.
So here's the deal: Next week I'm home all week but the following week our family is taking a vacation out of State. Then when we come back we're moving. I don't have time to do another scope in between it all. I definitely don't feel comfortable or confident with my doctor. After reading many of your posts, it seems like my GI doc does things completely different than everyone else's-like not keeping me on any maintenance meds. Plus when I asked him why I get bloated, his response was "you and most of the women out there get bloated". He told me he really didn't know why I was bloated. I thought his response was lousy. I also couldn't understand why he wouldn't treat or look at my itchy problem when I had it.
I don't know what to do. I will definitely be looking for a new GI doc once I'm settled after my move. We're only moving about 35 minutes away. Technically I could still see this GI doc but I don't want to. I was hoping to find a new one before a new flare. Do my current symptoms of rectal pain seem to you all like another flare is imminent? I don't want to be away on vacation without rectal enemas. Should I call the GI and ask for a new script? If so, should I start taking them now or wait until I get more symptoms?
I'm totally lost here and would appreciate any and all opinion.
Thanks
