Help with Colonoscopy Results

Hi all

I have not been diagnosed with anything yet. I finally had my colnoscopy yesterday to investigate blood and mucus in my stool. The doctor did not find any inflammation anywhere and told me the colon looks normal. However he found internal hemmeroid and two polyp (one of which was big 3 cm long looks like a tube) and he  thinks either  could be the cause of bleeding and mucus. Now since there was no inflammation and he did not mention anything about the IBD , does that mean I dont have it ? He is not available to talk today so I am kinda confused but hopefully optimistic

Nope! Sadly, this happened to me my initial scope. No signs of inflammation, but I did have internal hemmorhoids. However, the biopsies all showed inflammation. Did you have any biopsies taken?

Did he give you any medication for the hemmorhoids? While you are waiting for your biopsy results (if they were taken), you should try some meds and see if they help. I was given creams and suppositories but found very little relief.

Are your only symptoms bleeding and mucus?

Yea my only symptoms are bleeding and mucus. So it could be UC without colon inflammation visible during colnoscopy ? Thats whay confusing , cuz I thought Colitis is inflammation of colon. Are you referring to microscopic colitis ? The doc did not give me any medication

I could be wrong, but from what I understand is that UC needs to be diagnosed with a biopsy via a scope. I assume that means the inflammation is not always visable. My colon looked normal, but I was still very sick.

I would go to the drug store and pick up a suppository to put in. The creams are a bit harder to put in for me. Use it for a few days and see if you find any relief.

I am using suppositories now. I am very confused about all this. I was under the impression that a GI would be able to tell me after c-scope if its UC or not. I wonder how a colon can look normal and uninflammed with colitis especially when I have been seeing blood and mucus in stool...Anyone ?

I had a coloonoscopy when I was in remission and my colon looked normal but the biopsies showed "inactive colitis". I wasn't having bleeding at the time though. You could have "inactive UC" but also have hemmies and polyps that are causing bleeding.

Is this your first colonoscopy? were you previously diagnosed with UC? If not, it sounds like there's a good chance you do not have IBD.

Yep this was my first colonoscopy and I have never been diagnosed with UC (or any other GI problem) . My main symptoms were blood and mucus in stool which IMO would have shown inflammation during colnoscopy if it was due to an IBD.

There is a form of colitis that you have already correctly referred to known as microscopic colitis, however this form of colitis shouldn't cause bleeding. The biopsies will confirm this. I suspect the bleeding is from the internal hemmroid. Without knowing information about your other bowel habits (and assuming they are normal) then I wouldn't think you have IBD.

It could be due to IBS too but the bleeding would probably be due to the hemorrhoid. Please keep me updated. I am hoping it's not UC and it sounds like there is a good chance it isn't :)

Thanks for the replies. I dont have diarrohea or constipation(occasional loose stools here and there but nothing that followed a pattern).I probably go twice a day, but lataley I have been seeing a lot of brownish mucus with stools

I feel bloated immediately after meals for about 30 mins and discomfort in the upper region,but that could be due to small hiatal hernia (which was confirmed by the upper endoscopy done at the same time as my c-scope). Other than that the only symptom I have is occasional discomfort around belly button . No cramping , no other pain or symptom.

To be honest that sounds very much like IBS (particularly since, as you say, it doesn't follow a pattern). I have IBS and can relate to several of those symptoms (though I have UC too which is in remission). The blood could be the hemmroid and the mucus could simply be IBS (you will never see blood if it is just IBS, blood is a red flag indicator that something else is going on other than just IBS).

Hope this brings you some relief, but best wait to see the results of your biospy before settling on a firm conclusion.

I hope the GI removed the polyps.....when do you get your results?

Make sure you get a copy of it.
