In April I had met with my GI and had a sig done because I was having some problems with D and cramping. The sig looked fine and so I scheduled the follow up appt which I had today. We were hoping that after school was done things would calm down and my gut would get back to normal. I've still been having good and bad days but my bad days consist mostly of cramping and soft stools. My GI decided that he wants a full scope and to do a blood test for celiacs. He's worried that there is something going on it my small intestines (I had backwash ileitis when I was diagnosed). I have the scope scheduled for August 29th...without general anesthesia cry So I have my fingers crossed that both tests come out fine. Inflammation in my small intestines would mean crohns and a positive celiacs test would suck too...sigh.

So why no anesthesia?

At my clinic the adults get the twilight anesthesia and the kids get general. All the scopes I've had have been at peds so this will be my first one with just twilight.

Hi Sam...it's still better to know and have the doc check out that possibility.

Was it the sig scope you had 4/26/11?

I'm pretty sure I only had "twilight" sedation during my scope, but I don't remember ANY of it. Hopefully it's the same for you!

Yes q, it was the one in April. It didn't show anything but scarring from my initial flare.

The twilight sedation is OK, don't stress over it.....

Sam, I just had my first one without anesthesia too. Except they told me I would have it. But they lied. So at least you know going in. It stressed me out because I didn't know I'd be waking up in the middle, but wasn't bad, it didn't hurt. Although I could feel tugs when they took biopsies. I always burn through medication fast though, so maybe most people sleep through and don't remember anything.

I do remember at one point saying I felt like I could hear music and the pulse in my colon was matching up to it.

Goodluck Sam. Try not to stress, everything will work out. I don't think I had general for my colonoscopies. I don't remeber a thing, at the way end, I was a little awake when they scope came out but I didn't feel anything.

It's actually cool to have just the twilight sedation if you're positioned in a way that lets you watch the scope monitor. Then you sort of snooze, watch, snooze, etc. Very interesting to see what the innards look like ... at best like a pink tunnel. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

I can actually remember watching a little of my last scope while on the twilight. I didn't feel any pain and wasn't bothered by it. I was certainly in a drugged state, but do remember being sort of interested to watch what was going on. It is all quite foggy, though. Twilight should be fine. I hope all goes well.

Thanks guys. I've had twilight before, when I had a PICC line put in. I remember babbling like an idiot about random stuff. It will be interesting to see my colon. I could have seen it with my sig but I was in so much pain that I didn't care.
I should have the blood tests back by the end of the week so I'm trying not to borrow trouble.
