What is the prognosis for your disease? Will you always be expecting to to fight off flares. If so, surgery will help keep your health from deteriorating. Being on prednisone every time you flare is not the way to go.
Plus, I do believe that with a J-pouch you have some control of when you want to go unlike with a flare when you would have to run to the toilet at a moment's notice. So having a pouch is very different from having a flare.
And then, do you have an idea of why you have this disease? And have you tried alternative treatments? Probiotics? Fecal transplantation? Some people are very prone to flaring. Others aren't. For some, alternative treatments help very little if at all. For others, alternative treatments put them in remission and keep them there.
