Why can't I acheive remission? Whats next?

I'm sorry to hear things aren't improving. I know how you feel when you feel like you've done everything :(

I'm no expert, but from what I've read doctors like to hit you with a high dose of prednisone, to get your body in remission, and then taper you down. I've never heard of a low dose for someone that's in a flare. Have you had a dose like that before?

I tapered way to slowly (2.5 mg every 10 days) and now I'm regretting it as I never achieved the remission and have side effects from haven taken the Pred. If it's your first time taking it, read as much as you can about it.

Low dose pred will probably be like eating candy because it won't do anything for the inflammation. Usually higher doses are needed to hit it into submission. If you have been all over the grid in regards to meds and still flaring, than yes - immune suppressors are the next in line.

Do you watch what you eat and drink?

I don't know which type you were taking before, i.e. dosage, filler, etc...

I notice my symptoms have let up since starting pristiq. I've read that these types of medications can slow the colon and that depression causes inflammation. Perhaps it is worth a try, I've seen studides that show Wellbutrin to be helpfulf or some. I agree with Sherry about the low dose of pred, it prbably wouldn't be enough to snap you out of this flare up. If you'r going to go that route, start at the standard dose and taper off, don't try to take 10mg a day because it probably won't help and I noticed for myself, it was harder to control with prednisone once you're on prednisone. I think UC is caused by different things, some have a bacteria that will respond to antibiotics, some have autoimmune that may respond too 6mp/imuran, others may do well on 5ASAs. Have you tried imuran/6mp? I would also be using rectals (steroid and/or 5ASA) and find out the max dose of sulfa and give it a try. If it doesn't help, you need to decide what's next.

So sorry that this is so frustrating and you are giving it a good college try.  Not sure if you have tried psyllium seed powder...I started this with the LDN and it's bulking my stools, slowing the digestion down (I take 1 tsp with 1/2 small individual container of apple sauce am and pm) and I think that is helping me.  The LDN for me is to get my immune system working properly, because I think it got so messed up from the Remicade and Humira.   

 
Maybe the Lyme's disease really messed your system up more than it has been before...hmmm?

This disease is very frustrating and time consuming...I've never been close to remission until now with the psyllium seed powder, LDN and diet..not sure what is working, but a little relief is a blessing!
I read somewhere that vitamin E anemia's work??  maybe fecal transplant should be considered?  not sure of cost though and who/where it's being done...

Hi Thanks everyone for responding. InSoFl, Skip's pharamacy made mine and I have them ship it to Michigan. I like them a lot! I think my body is just over reacting. Someone suggest parasite drug so that's what I'm going to ask from my doctor next.
