Did I really mess up? Ibuprofen question

I know ibuprofen is a big, big no no for us. I don't even keep it in the house. However yesterday I had the absolute worst migraine (I only get them about 3 times a year). You know the I don't know what is going to kill me kind....the actual headache or the hours of nausea after.

Anyway I broke down and took 3 doses of ibuprofen throughout the course of the day. Today I have noticed a definite increase in bleeding (I'm in a flare so already bleeding).

Honestly my head hurt so bad yesterday I didn't even think about the repercussions of taking the ibuprofen I was so desperate for relief.

I guess this is a huge reminder to me that no matter how bad my head hurts no ibuprofen. I am going to ask my GI for a script for something stronger than tylenol for next time happens.

I have done the same thing and I've been lucky. I have asked doctors about taking NSAIDs on occasion and most will say if it's once a month or less, it shouldn't harm but I don't trust it, I do my best to avoid taking any NSAID. I have been working with a neurologist to stop these migraines, I get one or 2 a month and they last one to two days each. I started pristiq for prevention and I haven't had one since. You could see about switching from lexapro to pristiq, it may kill 2 birds.

I would get an RX for a migraine med, not a pain killer. I would probably die without my migraine meds lol.

Anyhow I do take advil when I have to, and haven't noticed bleeding. I try to be really careful with it though.

I used to take Advil for minor muscle pain before being diagnosed with UC, but not any more or I would have the same problem you described. For really bad headaches extra strength Exceedrin works well for me, but I only take it as a last resort. I always have something to eat first, easier on the stomach. Just be careful, we all react a little different to everything.

Hi,
I think Advil has caused a flare for me. I get Migraines and I use Midrin (cheap, effective and no Nsaids) If you don't get them too often this is a decent abortive medicine.

What, I had no idea, why is Ibuprofen bad for us? And another thing, are antibiotics bad for us?

ANY NSAID is bad for us runawaybride3, since it tears apart colon mucosa. You must use them only when you are left out of other options.

Antibiotics can trigger flares also.

I actually think Ibuprophen caused my UC. I used to literally eat them for arthritis pain, every 6-8 hours around the clock for years. Now of course I don't touch them. Now I take Tramadol and Acetaminophen.
