Is it just me or does UC cause absolutely no sex drive? I'm not depressed...but my poor hubby is getting that way!

We just had a recent discussion about
this. I believe the majority of do experience low(er) sex drive - myself included. For me personally, I find it hard to even get in the mood when things are squirrelly in the gut.

Um, Hell no. I am male. Perhaps it's different for the females.

There was a discussion the other day where a few men said they were dealing with low sex drive. I am also female and I have no drive. It's very frustrating and difficult to explain and I feel like women with this problem have very limited options, all of the medicatons out there are for men. Mine isn't only bad when I have a flare, it's consistently lower than I would like since diagnosis. Maybe it has something to do with feeling less attractive but I don't think so, I think it's physical.

I think the symptoms of U.C. like urgency, multiple bathroom trips, cramping, tiredness etc. make it hard to feel comfortable with our bodies and in turn make it hard to love ourselves. I know that when my symptoms were really bad that I didn't even think about
relationships or dating because of how crappy I felt. Since I am doing better, I wouldn't mind going out with some one again. Granted, I have never had a high sex drive to begin with and it probably has to do with my lack of menstruation. I'm not sure though.

I'm a 33/M with pancolitis for 12 years. During a severe flare, my drive does diminish.
With a mild to moderate flare or remission I am constantly pumping away any chance I get.

I'm a 21 year old male at college and it can def affect it. When I was really bad last week, sex was the last thing on my mind. Now that I'm feeling a little better I think my body is trying to make up for the lack of it last week lol.

Yes, with a wife of 10 years, 3 kids and one on the way. It is obvious what we like to do without even saying so...

I have noticed a decreased drive when flaring or when taking pain meds.

If I am anywhere near a flare my sex drive goes down the drain. Some of it is due to the bathroom trips but for me also the pain associated with sex. It feels like someone is stabbing me. My poor husband actually is understanding with it, but its frustrating to the both of us.

my Dr mentioned low testosterone is, for some reason, a side affect of IBD. If you're male, recommend getting your testosterone and free testosterone checked. I'm finally on the road to normalcy after getting checked and addressing. Even when I Was not flaring I had zero interest, finally that has changed.

I have been having problems with this, like zero libido. But I am not sure what the cause is, UC, diabetes, low/high blood sugar.. I have had testosterone checked and it came back normal.
I mean I was the typical guy a thought every 7 seconds and usually never a problem with viagra and relations. Now forget it maybe 1-2 x self release and barely able to do that.
I never thought that part of my life would be over at my age.
btw I am in good shape workout 4-5x a week. Good cardio program and weights.

JIMBO55 - did you also have your free testosterone checked? here's a document I found valuable wrt food/natural fixes and testosterone. written by some guy who had the same issue: http://www.increase-testosterone.info/testosterone-report.pdf

Would someone have a low libido during remission, or is it more pronounced in a flare?

It's usually ok when you're in 'remission'. However in my case, when I'm flaring even the proverbial 'Mrs. Palm and her five lovely daughters' are ineffective. ;)

Thought this thread deserved a bump. Coming out of a flare right now, also suffering bad strep throat for almost a month and realised my sex drive has been AWOL. Started worrying on behalf of my partner I guess, so it's nice to know that UC is probably having this negative effect on my libido.

This makes me feel a bit better, knowing that there are others out there dealing with this too. I keep worrying I'm frustrating my boyfriend because we haven't slept together much lately (only a few times a month right now) and I have had pretty much zero sex drive. Nothing has changed mentally or physically in terms of his attractiveness to me, but for some reason I'm just never in the mood and often have to force myself to try and get into it if he's all frisky. But he usually realizes pretty quickly when I'm really not having a good time. I feel awful about
it. I'm flaring right now and sex does hurt so I don't know if it's because of pressure somewhere but this sucks.
