Hi all,
As of late I have been mostly symptom free using Asacol HD and canasa, but I began to notice that every week or week and a half, I would feel a little less than ok. To try to get away from this cyclical nature of symptoms, I started using Sundays as a juice "fast" day. The reason I have fast in quotes is because I still eat about a cup or so of solid food since I am already underweight.
It has helped me greatly, and it has been effective in keeping flares at bay before they begin in earnest.
Essentially I drink 3-4 fruit/vegetable juices on Sunday, with one solid meal - usually dinner. Note that these are not smoothies but juices so I am able to get the vitamins and anti inflammatory properties of fruits and veggies without all the fiber.
My 3 favorite ingredients (the ones that make me feel great in the mornings) - Pineapple, cabbage, ginger root. I have at least 2 of these ingredients in each of my juices...and they don't taste half bad together either! Other fruits and veggies that I have added apples, peaches, strawberries, blueberries, celery, and carrots - really what ever the local market near us has :)
I have found that my mornings are much better now - much less "discomfort" after my morning movement.
My fiancee suggests the "Big book of juices and smoothies" and the juicer we use is by Breville and cost a 100 bucks. I would imagine that with the holiday season coming up they might even be cheaper.
Just thought I'd share this with the community. Hope it helps some of you out there! Let me know if others have tried this and what they have noticed.
