Morning Everyone,

I have had UC for 10+ years and the last few weeks, I have been having middle pack pain. I am not sure if it is related to my UC or not. The pain is actually felt on both sides and also causes the bottom front rib (and underneath) to be very tender. The last couple nights the pain has been affecting my sleep. It took me 3+ hours before I was finally able to fall asleep last night. It seems I have been a bit more gassy then usual as well.

If I have another night like last, I will be making an appointment first thing tomorrow to see my GI.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I do not have UC, I have IBS, however I have been experiencing the exact same symptons since February 2011.  My GI originally suspected it was my gallbladder, but after having EVERY GI test under the sun (US, CT, Pill Endoscopy, Small Bowel Series...) they all came back negative for Crohns and Gallbladder.  They could not find any diagnosis.  I am in constant pain and it keeps me up at night and is far worse in the morning.  They have told me they thought it might be Chronic Abdominal Wall Pain (CAWP...can you believe that there is such a thing?)  I wish they could have at least found something GI related since there is nothing they can do for CAWP except pain meds as it is a nerve related illness. 

I hope that you are successul in finding the cause,  I would suggest seeing you GI about the possibility that it could be Gallbladder related. The pain from that can radiate around to your back and shoulder.

I had an abdominal ultrasound performed about 3 weeks ago. My PCP thought I had kidney stones but the u/s only showed that I have fatty liver (awesome right). Gallbladder looked fine.

Is your pain on the right side or left?

If you have gas, it could put pressure on other areas or be referred to feel like back pain, etc. I've had gas pain that shoots up into my chest, most annoying and distressing.

I wonder if fatty liver can cause pain?

If you're getting more gas than usual, and it cannot be attributed to a new/specific food, it could be a symptom of rectal inflammation and you're starting to flare.

What meds are you on at this point?

It is actually pain on the both sides. It is more concentrated to the muscle along my spine. However, it starts in the rib which leads me to think inflammation of the rib cage.

I was on Lialida for a year and my liver enzymes (LFTs) started to increase they were over 200, GI thinks I have PSC (PCP does not think so), I was leaning towards it being the Lialda, I have been off the Lialda for a year and my LFTs have gone down to around 60. I was doing GREAT on the Lialda (minus high LFTs), but just incase my GI put me back on Asacol, which has not really done anything. Last month with lower Enzyme levels my GI put me back on Lialda with bi-weekly blood tests to monitor my LFTs.

I am currently taking

Lialda 4.8g
Usrodoil (for high liver enzymes)
Rowasa Enema - Unfortunately, I have not been using these every night.

I have a shipment of Probiotic recommended by my wife's cousin (she is a nutritionist) coming in early next month.
I am debating on the VSL #3 - My insurance will cover the DS Packets. The mail order plan is $90 every 3 months.

it's the same pain i am experiencing when my AS flares. you should consider talking to a rheumatologist.

     I have middle back pain but know it is from the fractures I suffered because I have osteoporosis due to extensive use of prednisone.

     Have you had a bone scan?

No I haven't. Fortunately it has been years since I took predisone. And even then i only on it for 6 weeks.

So I saw my GI about an hour ago and based on what I described he believes it is related to the colitis. He prescribed Hyoscyamine (anti-spasm) for me to use AS NEEDED and also wants me to start on a probiotic, which i planned on anyway. He wants to put me on 6MP but decided to wait until December when I see him again and we plan my year scope.

Have you noticed your hands getting bigger? Have your facial features changed over the last few years? Migraines and sleeping problems?
