Hi...thanks for asking! Yes, my scope was yesterday. I, unfortunately, had my flu shot the day before, such a stupid move..what the heck was I thinking?? I was so zonked, and doing the clean-out (GoLytely, went well) and having the scope at 11:00 the next morning was way too long for me to go without food.

I decided to go to the office this time instead of the hospital. Not my choice for next time....I hate paper gowns, but it could have been my whole perspective from the flu shot.

I nixed having the versed...opted for just the fentanyl. Awake for the entire scope and everything looked really good on the way up. Somewhat painful from the air, but otherwise fine. He did a lot of talking this time. There seemed to be a lot of juices, but he said normal..ok.

Funny thing...there were 3 asacol throughout. All is varying stages of breaking down. VERY COOL, and wondering why they weren't out from the clean-out. I had them the morning of the clean-out...stubborn little things and heavy? so they're really not pushed out as fast as some might believe I surmise.

On the way back while taking biopsies (5 from each section) Visually...cecum, ascending colon, transverse, descending, sigmoid and most of the rectum...perfect. Some scarring in the rectum, and there was a slight reddish streak from the scope. The lower rectum was slightly reddish...could be from clean-out or slight flare. Anus no redness (which I thought would be flaming red considering how it felt. The outer area was inflamed from the wiping since the external hemmie and fissure got a working over.

I went home this time, had no energy. Took tylenol, bentylol, ate, metamucil caps, meds, went to sleep for 4 hours. I woke up nauseated, ate my turkey supper, nixed the metamucil, slept for another 4 hours. Went to bed around 3, nauseated still...took half a gravol, bentylol and used the enema which I'll do for the next 3 nights because of the biopsies.

Had a bm around noon, my gut is settling, nausea is gone, no gas and I'm feeling quite normal (except for a sore arm) as of now.

sorry for the novel...but it's fresh in my mind..lol.

I get the results in about a month unless something is seriously up and he'll call.

He was very talkative this time and I was quiet..he stressed that he's impressed with the use of the enemas and the positive scopes still after this amount of time. I needed to hear that without mentioning anyting about the meds myself. So, all in all a good scope, just crappy experience....stupid flu shot.

Hope your scope goes well....you've done amazingly well with your meds. It sucks you're dealing with this as well, but I'm impressed it hasn't impacted or resulted in a flare as well.

What clean-out do you usually use?

I was curious when I saw your signature. How come you dont take VSL#3? Is there anything better about the probiotics youre taking now? And also, what dietary changes have you made that helps your UC and symptoms?

Ah, good stuff! VSL #3 has 8 strains I think..

So, that means you'll be "awake" during the scope? It's reallllly an interesting persepctive, literally, actually KNOWING what the doc sees rather than hearing it. while nicely "stoned"..lol.

Quincy, according to my gastro, the likely change over time is for the colon to shrink lengthwise. It happened to me, but I only found out via scope report measurements. The flip side to this is that I only have to down Halflytely to prep-- lol & ugh together. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
