VSL#3 DS, is it OTC?

I got my GI write me a Rx for VSL#3 DS and my local Rite-Aid tells me that its OTC, really?

I have never seen or heard of it being OTC.

VSL#3 is OTC.

DS is not as far as I know.

I asked if they had VSL#3 or DS at my pharmacy and no one had heard of it. They pretty much told me there is no prescription probiotics. I left and assumed they don't know what they are talking about.

Same here. My Rite-Aid pharmacist told me that from what she was looking at on screen, no where it told her that VSL#3 DS is prescription drug and wants to charge me $140 for a pack of 20.

What did you do?

VSL#3 DS is prescription only.

Call VSL- they will tell you it is too.

The last post was correct.  DS VSL#3 is Rx.  Normal VSL#3 can be ordered off the internet and mailed to your home but it's expensive as heck.

I had to give the pharmacy the web site and phone number for VSL #3DS, and then it was ordered, and covered by BC/BS as a regular RX. Google it.

I had to fight through the pharmacy at a Kaiser hospital to get them to recognize the difference between VSL 3 and VSL 3 DS. Like others said, VSL 3 is OTC and DS is Rx only. Very, very, very few pharmacies have any clue that there's a difference. You will have to work with them until they figure it out.

That probably means talking to the manager. The half-educated pharmacy tech won't get you far enough :-)
