Havent been here for a while! Two years with few problems! Couple days now with mucous and cramping. Question is could my bladder be affected by swelling and inflammation. Was up about 7 times just to P. Fewer times with bowels!

I also urinate more frequently when in a flare but I think it has more to do with you needing and drinking more fluids while flaring than anything else. While flaring I know I drink at least 3 bottles of water a day. When not flaring usually 1-2

I do not drink water or any liquid except with my medication - maybe three glasses a day!

Hi Elaine...could you possibly have a bit of a bladder infection or irritation? considering you don't drink much liquid during the day.

A flare could have some influence on the bladder if you have a slight inflammation there as well. I was having a bit of a problem for a while after tubal ligation in 1992.  Sometimes infection, other times not...but always cloudy urine. It was thought I might have interstitial cystitis. I had the bladder scope, and interestingly...never had a problem after that. Seemed to flush everything out I think..lol.

You could look into that possibilitiy.

Oh, I may as well throw in the fact that the female body tends to get "dehydrated" in the lower area because of lower estrogen. The bladder can be affected, especially if it's not emptied properly.

Some medications can affect the bladder response, maybe making it more "spasmy", and especially if you might be flaring...everything is close in proximity and might react anyway if you're flaring.

What meds are you taking?

Hi Heather,
Nice to see you here again!  I haven't been here much since I am doing ok most of the time.  My husband was very sick for months and passed away on August 20.  I had no problems while being his caretaker and all the stress.  NOW - couple days of mucous and cramping - just used one suppository and plan on using one tonight and seem ok today.
Using Immodium when necessary (usually when I eat wrong for me).
As for hormones - I am 71 so don't know about those.
I feel I have a position problem with the bladder and I have stress incontinence for years.  My urine is good color and clear.  Today I believe it must have been pressure on my bladder from inflammation of color - you know I have proctitis (way down low).  I will wait and see.  I have appointment with doctor in a couple months.  Once again trying to lose weight - I know that will help.

Hi Elaine, so good to hear from you. My condolences to you on the loss of your husband.

 I was told by a doctor that females with UC tend to have more UTI's -- and I do! Take care -- sounds like you are feeling a bit better.

I am 71 and never had a Uti. What are symptoms? I dont havve pain and urine looks normal.

UTI's generally come with a burning sensation -- at least that's how I know I have one coming on.

Thanks all!  I miss my husband but he was very ill with cancer and congestive heart failure and I would not have wanted him to live a minute more the way he was.

He passed away the day after our 50th anniversary!  A great 50 years!!

I will ask my doctor to test my urine as I am seeing him soon.

Elaine, I just lost my Father a few weeks ago to the very same thing; congestive heart failure and cancer -- so I can very much sympathize with your statement. Wow, 50 years! You are an amazing lady and I remember you telling us how wonderful he was. Sounds like you had a beautiful life together.

Sad to hear about your husband Elaine...sincerest sympathies to you.

It's been a long go for you dealing with him being so sick and you dealing with UC at the same time.
You should still get checked by a urologist if it continues.

I'm so sorry to hear about your husband. It's tough letting go of someone we love but it can be a blessing at the same time especially if they have been ill for so long.

Thanks Sherry and old friends here! I was lucky I had Paul over 4 years with stage 4 lung cancer and that my UC stayed manageable! Still need to get both knees replaced and walking mostly with walker or using Pauls scooter. Planning on surgery Spring!

Glad to see you back (well you know what I mean) So sorry to hear about your husband...sounds like you had a wonderful relationship...a real blessing. I don't have any advice, but wanted to chime in and hope you feel better soon. Pls keep in touch!

Nice to hear form you Christine! I was not available much with computer problems and husband to care for. Now I have like too much time but I am doing great. My UC stays stable and only once in last year I had to treat with suppositories for a few days. I do have problems with diarhea but take my Imodium regularly. Not much discomfort and no pain. I was sure with stress of losing Paul I would have problems but thank goodness not yet. Hoping to have my knee replaced next Spring.
